No Eritrean should have to risk the desert and the sea just to leave their own country.
Under Isaias Afwerki and the PFDJ, leaving Eritrea legally requires an exit visa that most young people never receive. Those held in indefinite national service are denied passports, those who flee are treated as traitors, and their families at home pay the price. The result is one of the highest numbers of refugees per capita in the world, and a generation scattered across Sudan, Ethiopia, Libya, Europe and beyond.
The Eritrean Blue Revolution Front (@BlueFront90547), under the leadership of @BeyeneGerezghe1, stands for a different principle: freedom of movement is a right, not a reward for loyalty.
A peaceful, time-limited democratic transition under the 1997 Constitution would mean:
- Abolishing the exit visa regime and issuing passports to every citizen as a matter of law
- Ending indefinite national service, the main reason young people flee
- Embassies that serve citizens instead of watching them
- A safe, voluntary and dignified path home for refugees and exiles, with their civil and property rights restored
- Working with neighbours, host countries and @Refugees to protect Eritreans in transit and dismantle trafficking networks
- An elected National Assembly writing these guarantees into law, and independent courts to enforce them
A state that must lock its doors to keep its people is not strong. Eritrea will be strong when its citizens are free to leave and choose to come home.

Felemawi is right, and so is Cameron Hudson. The lapse of sanctions has not reached a single Eritrean family. It has handed Isaias Afwerki and the PFDJ more room to keep troops inside Ethiopia, hold our youth in indefinite national service and gamble with the security of Assab and Red Sea shipping. Any American outreach to Asmara must be measured by what it delivers for Eritreans, not by what it hands the regime. Real conditions mean troop withdrawal, the release of political prisoners and an end to open ended conscription. Lasting Red Sea security will come from a democratic Eritrea with an elected government accountable to its people, and EBRF has a transition plan to build exactly that. Washington should stand with that change, not with the dictator.

Cameron Hudson is right that Washington must attach firm conditions to any new outreach to Asmara. We in EBRF want to be clear about what the lapse of sanctions has meant in practice. Sanctions relief did not reach a single Eritrean family. It gave Isaias Afwerki and the PFDJ more room to keep troops inside Ethiopia, hold our youth in indefinite national service and gamble with the security of Assab and Red Sea shipping. Lasting Red Sea security will come from a democratic Eritrea with an elected government that answers to its people. EBRF has a transition plan and is organizing inside and outside the country to deliver it, and we ask the United States to back that change rather than the dictator.

When a reporter in Moscow asked Isaias Afwerki which projects Eritrea wants with Russia in trade, energy, food security and payments, he answered that he had not come to talk about Eritrea. That answer tells the whole story of his rule. For more than three decades Isaias and the PFDJ have run our country without a published national budget, without a sitting parliament and without any accounting to the people. Any agreement he signs abroad is made in secret and serves the regime, not Eritrean families. We in EBRF are organizing for a democratic Eritrea where leaders answer to elected institutions and every foreign deal is public. That is why we are working for regime change.

Eritrea's sovereignty belongs to the Eritrean people, not to one man.
This week China's special envoy for the Horn of Africa was received in Asmara while Beijing spoke of respecting sovereignty. For more than three decades, Isaias Afwerki and the PFDJ have signed deals, hosted envoys and spoken for Eritrea without a constitution in force, without an elected Assembly and without any public accounting to the citizens whose land and coastline they claim to represent. That is not sovereignty. That is personal rule.
The Eritrean Blue Revolution Front, under @BlueFront90547 and our diplomacy department led by @BeyeneGerezghe1, offers a different foundation for every partnership Eritrea will need:
- A peaceful, time-limited transition to constitutional governance under the 1997 Constitution.
- An elected National Assembly that ratifies every treaty, loan and security arrangement, with the texts published for the people to read.
- Independent courts and the release of all political prisoners, so no citizen can be locked away for speech or conscience.
- Soldiers brought home from indefinite national service, and foreign policy built on mutual understanding rather than permanent siege.
- Open engagement with China, the United States, the African Union, the Gulf and our neighbours — as a democratic state, not as one man's private domain.
Partners who want a stable Horn and a reliable Red Sea coast should invest in Eritrean institutions and the Eritrean people, not in the survival of the PFDJ.

Eritrea's young people should be in classrooms, not in military camps. Since 2003, Isaias Afwerki and the PFDJ have sent final year secondary students to Sawa, and the University of Asmara stopped admitting students in the mid 2000s. A whole generation has learned that a diploma leads only to indefinite national service, and many have fled across the desert and the sea. The PFDJ will never reform a system built to control our youth. We in EBRF have a plan for a peaceful transition under the 1997 Constitution, with civilian schools, a reopened University of Asmara and an end to indefinite national service, and we are organizing for it now.

Eritrea's young people should be students, not conscripts.
Since 2003, Eritrean secondary students have been sent to complete their final school year at Sawa, a military training camp, where exam results decide who goes on to a college and who is funnelled into indefinite national service. The University of Asmara, once the pride of the country, stopped admitting students in the mid-2000s and was broken up into scattered colleges under tight state control. A whole generation has learned that its education leads to a barracks, and too many have answered by risking the desert and the sea just to study abroad.
The Eritrean Blue Revolution Front (EBRF), @BlueFront90547, with @BeyeneGerezghe1 leading its diplomacy, offers a different path:
• Schools run by civilians, with the final year completed in students' home communities, not in a military camp.
• A reopened, independent University of Asmara with academic freedom, open research and partnerships with universities in Africa, Europe and North America.
• An end to indefinite national service, so a diploma opens doors to work, business and public service.
• Vocational training and scholarships tied to real jobs in agriculture, fisheries, ports, energy and technology.
• An education budget approved by an elected National Assembly under the 1997 Constitution, with transparent spending.
• A welcome home for diaspora teachers, doctors and engineers who want to help rebuild.
A peaceful, time-limited transition to constitutional government is the way to give Eritrea's youth back their classrooms and their future. Investing in Eritrean students is investing in stability for the whole Horn of Africa.

@_PoliticsAddict, #Ethiopia is undoubtedly the anchor state in the Horn of Africa.
Any discussion that excludes Ethiopia is futile. The Eritrean regime's intervention in Ethiopia is intended to derail and destabilize the entire region. Its primary objective is to reignite open conflict in the region, enabling it to assert sovereignty, mobilize the Eritrean population, and garner international sympathy.
The best strategy is to exercise restraint and deny the Eritrean regime the open conflict it seeks.

Our EBRF leader Beyene Gerezgiher, speaking with Dawit Yibrah on NBC Ethiopia, set out clearly where we stand. Isaias Afwerki and the PFDJ have made Eritrea a source of poverty, war and instability for our own people and for our neighbours. We want Eritrea and Ethiopia to prosper together through diplomacy, trade and cooperation. EBRF is intensifying its preparations for fundamental political change, and we are ready to protect the security and stability of our people once the dictatorship ends. Important Remarks by Mr. Beyene GebreEgziabher (Wufuy) During His Interview with Dawit Yibrah on @NBCEthopia
The statements made by Mr.Beyene GebreEgziabher (Wufuy) are extremely important. Here are some of the key points he raised:
In the 21st century, the time has come to put an end to living in endless conflict and fighting against one another.
Our main objective is for Ethiopia and Eritrea to prosper together through diplomatic relations, trade, and cooperation.
The EBRF is fully prepared to safeguard the security and stability of the people following the removal of the dictator. We are confident that the Eritrean people stand with us.
The dictatorship in Eritrea is a major source of poverty, instability, and conflict in both Eritrea and Ethiopia. Therefore, it must come to an end so that people can live free from war and focus on development and prosperity.
The sea should be a place for trade
and economic cooperation, not
something kept out of use for 34 years by a dictator. Our vision goes beyond access to the sea: we aim to work together with the Ethiopian people and all the peoples of the Horn of Africa.
Conclusion
The EBRF is currently intensifying its preparations for fundamental political change in Eritrea. All countries in the Horn of Africa should stand alongside the EBRF.
In particular, the Ethiopian government and people should provide their full support in bringing an end to the dictatorship, because the benefits of peace, stability, and prosperity will be shared by all of us.
Isaias Afwerki is a major source of poverty, instability, and conflict in both Eritrea and Ethiopia.

This is what a peaceful democratic transition in Eritrea means for us in EBRF. It starts with the 1997 Constitution, which Isaias Afwerki and the PFDJ ratified and then shelved so that one man could rule without limits. It continues with a transition that has a clear end date and leads to free and fair elections, after more than thirty years without a national vote. It requires an independent judiciary so that the G15, the journalists jailed in 2001 and thousands of others are accounted for and freed. It means ending indefinite national service so our youth can build a future at home. The PFDJ cannot reform itself, so we are organizing for regime change with a clear plan.

#EBRF #BlueRevolution #RegimeChange #Eritrea
What does a peaceful democratic transition in Eritrea actually look like? For the Eritrean Blue Revolution Front (EBRF), it is not a slogan. It is a clear direction built on the rule of law.
It means implementing the 1997 Constitution, ratified but never applied, so that power is finally limited, accountable and shared.
It means a time-limited transition that ends in free and fair elections, so Eritreans can choose their own leaders after more than three decades without a single national vote.
It means an independent judiciary and due process, so no citizen disappears without charge, and the G-15, the journalists jailed in 2001 and thousands of others are accounted for and freed.
It means ending indefinite national service, so young Eritreans can study, work and build a future at home instead of fleeing across deserts and seas.
It means a free press, a National Assembly that actually meets, and elected local structures that answer to the people.
And it means constructive diplomacy with our neighbours and the international community, guided by Eritrean interests, not one man's survival.
This is the path @BlueFront90547 and EBRF leader @BeyeneGerezghe1 are putting forward: change through law, institutions and the will of the people.
We ask partners in Washington and beyond to engage with Eritrea's democratic opposition and support this peaceful transition.

Red Sea security will not be built on private deals with one man in Asmara.
As @phelemawi notes, Saudi Arabia's ambassador has just met Isaias Afwerki's foreign minister Osman Saleh while tension rises across the Horn and along the Red Sea. Eritrea holds more than 1,000 km of Red Sea coastline and the ports of Massawa and Assab. Yet no Eritrean citizen knows what the PFDJ has promised, leased or signed with foreign governments over three decades, because there is no parliament to scrutinize agreements, no free press to report on them and no public budget for the people to read.
The Eritrean Blue Revolution Front, under @BlueFront90547 and our diplomacy department led by @BeyeneGerezghe1, offers our Gulf and African neighbours a different partner:
- A peaceful, time-limited transition to an elected government under the 1997 Constitution.

- Soldiers brought home, the Algiers Agreement honoured, and disputes with Ethiopia settled through law and diplomacy.
- Open ports and fair investment that create jobs for young Eritreans instead of pushing them across the desert and the sea.
- Cooperation with Saudi Arabia, the Gulf states, Sudan, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Yemen on maritime safety, trafficking and smuggling.
We ask Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Washington and Brussels to invest in the Eritrean people and their institutions, not in one man. A democratic Eritrea will be the most reliable guardian of a stable Red Sea.

Every partner on the Red Sea wants a stable coast. The PFDJ cannot deliver it.
