Ten veterans whose remains were unclaimed by family members, some for many years, were interred with dignity and respect today at Sarasota National Cemetery. Thomas Ritt, 1875-1955, a U.S. Army corporal during the Spanish American War, had waited the longest. Also interred Thursday: William L. McBurney, 1910-1973, a U.S. Army Tech 5 during World War II Charles D. Ingram, 1914-1990, a U.S. Navy lieutenant junior grade during World War II Nick T. D'Elia, 1925-2009, a U.S. Army PFC during World War II Francis Mroz, 1933-1991, a U.S. Army corporal during the Korean War Thomas A. Zaepfel, 1947-2013, a private during the Vietnam War John M. Curvey, 1944-2025, a U.S. Navy BM3 during the Vietnam War Zane T. Glant, 1947-2026, a U.S. Navy BM3 during the Vietnam War Carl Bailey, 1953-2026, a U.S. Marine private during the Vietnam War William Betts, 1959-2026, a U.S. Air Force staff sergeant who served during peacetime. Remains going unclaimed at funeral homes, including those of veterans, is a nationwide problem. Shannon Funeral Home of Bradenton partnered with the Missing in America Project on the Missing in America project. The purpose of the project is to locate, identify and inter the unclaimed cremated remains of American veterans through the joint efforts of private, state and federal organizations and to honor and respect those who served this country by securing a final resting place for them. Junior ROTC cadets from Braden River High School, Bayshore High School and Manatee High School played a central role in the service. It was my honor to attend today's service and pay our respects with Braden River Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12055 Commander Dave Daily and past commander Graham Ellis. See less

Important people know the backstory of this ad. @patrickgaspard gave me the idea to take her inexcusable gaffe and do something edgy with it that could get attention. My content creator, @RyanSayles_ directed and edited it. He should be considered the breakout-star of this cycle. He’s going to be a giant in the media consultant game. He did GAME CHANGING work with SO little.
She done lost her damn mind.

Next week, the House will vote on the Major Richard Star Act. Thanks to RM @RepMarkTakano's discharge petition, combat-injured veterans will finally get a vote on the bill they have called for passage of for nearly six years. It's time to finally pass the Major Richard Star Act!

I have been holding my tongue about something that happened during the Ohio gubernatorial race. I refused to speak while the election was underway because I did not want my words mistaken for an attempt to influence anyone’s vote. But now that the election is over, I have something to say. For nearly twenty years, my ministry has taken me among the homeless, the abused, the exploited, and the forgotten. I have sat with victims of sexual violence and witnessed the lifelong wounds of childhood trauma. What Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign did to Amy Acton was among the most morally repulsive things I have witnessed in American politics. They took a woman whose stepfather was indicted for raping her when she was twelve years old and featured her mother, from whom she had been estranged for nearly fifty years, in a political advertisement attacking her credibility. The advertisement challenged Acton’s account of her childhood without mentioning the sexual abuse allegations or the circumstances of that estrangement. When people expressed their horror, the campaign defended it. Imagine examining another person’s childhood suffering and fractured family relationships, then deciding those wounds might help win an election. Anyone who has worked with survivors of childhood sexual abuse understands the painful realities of denial, betrayal, shame, and estrangement. A child growing into a successful adult does not erase what happened. Nor does a parent’s denial make that suffering disappear. I find it equally disturbing that an elderly mother, whom Acton herself described as unwell, was brought into this spectacle. Whatever her own struggles or responsibility for the past, exploiting that fractured relationship was grotesque. To everyone who defended this, consider the message you sent to survivors. To the young woman whose family refuses to believe her. To the man who has carried the shame of childhood abuse for forty years. To the frightened child who has yet to tell anyone. What did you teach them about the value of their suffering? I am a priest. I believe in repentance, forgiveness, and redemption. But none of those things requires me to pretend that deliberate cruelty is anything less than a grave moral failure. Your political allegiance does not absolve you of moral responsibility. You do not get to set aside your conscience during an election and retrieve it afterward. If your loyalty requires you to defend the exploitation of a childhood sexual abuse survivor, your loyalty has become an idol. And if your conscience cannot recognize the wrong here, examine what political tribalism has done to it. This is not about Republicans or Democrats. We have a choice as a people: continue excusing cruelty from our preferred political camp, or summon the courage to condemn it wherever it appears. Amy Acton deserved better. Every survivor who watched this unfold deserved better. And God help us if we have reached the point where winning an election matters more than protecting the dignity of a wounded human being.

Writing this in my personal capacity, but I have been flying these types of aircraft for more than 20 years, with over 8,000 hours, and have reasonable familiarity with how the charter world operates. I feel compelled to post after seeing commentary about the Lear 60 crash, from missile strikes to DEI to critiquing this poor woman’s final radio calls. That last part is what I find most troubling. She was the second-in-command (SIC), and while she was empowered to point out mistakes as part of good crew resource management, she was doing her job, communicating with ATC right to the end in a terrifying situation. She likely knew before many of those calls that she was going to die. I have heard final calls from friends, from military pilots with thousands of hours in fighter aircraft, and they are just as heartbreaking because they know the end is approaching. I understand the public interest given the footage and audio. But you do not know the aircraft’s maintenance history, whether there was a structural failure, if any failure was induced by turbulence, overspeed, or overcontrol, or everything happening in that cockpit. I am sure weather will be part of the investigation, but beyond that, it is speculation. The charter industry routinely hires commercial pilots very early in their careers to gain experience alongside an ATP-qualified captain before they move up to the airlines. She would still have the appropriate training, qualifications, and checkouts by an FAA examiner or designee. Let people investigate, learn, and share the facts. Be respectful to those who perished and the families who carry their memories. God bless them and their loved ones.

The IRGC has designated the British Royal Navy and airforce as hostile actors this has raised concern that Iran will seek to target British assets in Cyprus or around the world if US strikes resume. There is increasingly indication that the US will resume widespread actions.

It has been revealed what Irans key demands are in negotiations with the US to end the war: -Lift all blockade of Irans economy including sanctions and naval. -Remove all sanctions political and economic. -Stop hostilities in Yemen, Iraq, Lebanon and Gaza. -Release all frozen Iranian assets from banks. -Pay reparations for the war damage and withdraw US troops from the region. This is just never going to happen.

I’ve seen a lot of bad things in my life. Sounds and smells are often worse than any video can portray. I’m not going to listen to the audio of the airplane crash. Listening to death, in many ways, is worse than seeing it. You do you, but man…it’ll steal part of your soul.

NEW: On background from a War Department official: Army Lieutenant General Brett Sylvia, who was part of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was fired by Secretary Hegseth for severe misconduct. Although Sylvia’s title was director of the Directorate for Strategy, Plans, and Policy at the Joint Chiefs of Staff, known inside the military as the J5, he was NOT a central planner for the Iran War. That is the responsibility of CENTCOM and its commander Admiral Cooper. Sylvia is the subject of an investigation for leaking classified information about the Iran War, the war between Russia and Ukraine, and more. Due to the Pentagon’s media policy requiring journalists to have escorts in the building, Sylvia began meeting with journalists outside of the Pentagon in order to leak classified information. Sylvia failed three polygraphs which questioned him about leaking classified information. The investigation into him remains ongoing and has been referred to the Department of Justice for further action. The extent of his leaking became so critical that Secretary Hegseth took immediate action and fired Sylvia in order to protect national security. Urgent action was needed and could not wait another second.
