China's Diplomacy in Geneva: Historical Moments #3 On 17 September 1984, at a special session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) held at the Palais des Nations to mark its 20th anniversary, China presented UNCTAD with a tapestry depicting Beijing's Temple of Heaven, a symbol of the Chinese people's aspiration for peace & well-being. Forty years later, on 12 June 2024, President Xi Jinping delivered a video address to the opening ceremony of UNCTAD's 60th anniversary celebrations, calling on all countries to pursue true multilateralism and advocate a universally beneficial & inclusive economic globalization, while supporting a more effective role of UNCTAD and other multilateral agencies.

China’s Diplomacy in Geneva: Historical Moments #1 In 1954, Premier Zhou Enlai led the Chinese delegation to the Geneva Conference, marking the People’s Republic of China’s first appearance on the multilateral stage as one of the five major countries. Premier Zhou’s diplomatic efforts helped break the deadlock on key issues concerning Indo-China and contributed to the adoption of the conference’s Final Declaration on 21 July, which also demonstrated China’s role in promoting the negotiated settlement of international disputes and advancing world peace.

25 October 2026 marks the 55th anniversary of the adoption of UN GA #Resolution2758 on 25 October 1971, restoring the lawful rights of the People’s Republic of China in the UN. Over the past 55 years, as a founding member of the UN and a permanent member of its Security Council, #China has always been a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and a guardian of the international order. Standing at this new starting point of history, China will continue to shoulder its responsibility as a major country, further deepen cooperation with the UN across the board, jointly tackle global challenges, and build a community with a shared future for humanity.

It is a great honor to attend the briefing on the High-Level Conference on Humanity in War and to update the Geneva diplomatic community with the progress, alongside colleagues from Brazil, France, Jordan, Kazakhstan, South Africa, and the ICRC. The Global Initiative to Galvanize Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law aims to strengthen joint efforts to ensure adherence to and implementation of international humanitarian law. We encourage all parties to join the Initiative and to send high-level representatives to the High-Level Conference on Humanity in War to be held in Jordan on December 7. As one of the 6 co-founding States, China is committed to work with all parties to advance the Initiative toward tangible results, ensure the success of the Conference, and jointly uphold the international rule of law.

For thousands of years, legend has it that a Chinese goddess watched over sailors and fishermen, guiding them safely through the unpredictable, towering waves of the ocean. The Chinese people affectionately call her “Mazu”(妈祖). At the 2026 World AI Conference, China’s AI-powered meteorological warning system “MAZU” again takes center stage. Its name is inspired by the sea goddess, and also stands for “Multi-hazard”, “Alert”, “Zero-gap” and “Universal”. The initiative builds a global early-warning service network covering multiple types of disasters, sharing China’s practices and technological achievements in early warning with the world. #EarlyWarningForAll #MAZU #WAIC2026
