Dear Gen. Saleh, an apology to Dr Besigye and the country will suffice
Gen. Saleh, that against all the inconsistencies, the more prudent, more strategic thing to do is a heartfelt public apology. Tell Ugandans that you and co. acted on fake intelligence (and there are men in jail already) and are truly sorry.
It could be a recorded message or a live broadcast on UBC. As the co-president, you have been throughout these 40 years, you are able to speak on behalf of your team and the country will believe you.
As soon as the broadcast is completed, release all these men immediately. Let them return to their families. Let them receive urgent medical care they so badly need. This would be an absolute moment of truth and reconciliation – perhaps the one you are aspiring for in attempting to offer an olive branch to Dr Besigye, the one he is rejecting.

I just wanted to remind you that in the year of our Lord 2002 Justice Frederick Egonda- Ntende nullified Amama Mbabazi's 2001 parliamentary election. He confirmed there was widespread electoral malpractices like voter bribery, intimidation by security forces and illegal use of public resources. Amama appealed the decision and the court of appeal dismissed his petition. I want you to think about the kind of judges Uganda had 20 years ago, and the kind we have now.

The problem is that we have not yet accepted that our political class is against people who are not them, like rabidly against.

How is this "simply legal"? you are now showing that you are not just a bumbling captive audience but actively participating in these narratives erasing actual political history, you are selling these stories like a damn soap opera, anyway you got what you wanted, views.

I completely agree. Amin was a brutal dictator who caused immense suffering to Ugandans. I am not defending his crimes.
But the point of the video is the geopolitics. The West turns him into a movie clown to distract from the fact that he humiliated the British Empire. We can condemn his domestic atrocities while still studying his anti-colonial defiance. Two things can be true.

The West wants you to remember Idi Amin as a buffoon in Hollywood movies.
They never tell you he forced the British Foreign Secretary to fly to Uganda and beg him for a man's life. They never mention he made the British Empire cut ties and run.
Watch this. They only call African leaders "mad" when they refuse to bow. 🇺🇬✊🏾
