ALT MARCUS: By gum! I can’t understand why we didn’t get any eggs last night—sure tough when we’re dependin’ on ‘em to tide us through this season of poor crops! MARCUS: Couldn’t ‘a come at a worse time, either—what with interest on the mortgage due, the mwoin’ machine t’pay for, and Minnie’s education t’worry about— MARCUS: ‘S funny, too—I never heard of a whole flock o’hens t’all quit layin’ at once—sure hope it ain’t happened again tonight! MARCUS: Well, I’ll be gol durned—what d’ya know about that! T’night there’s bushels of ‘em!

ALT MARGIE: Did you enjoy the ice cream, children? SLICKER: It was positively delicious, Mrs. Mouse! MINNIE: Thanks, mother—it was wonderful! MARGIE: I know we can’t afford ice cream, Father, but we must be nice to Minnie’s guests! MARCUS: Of course, Mother! I’ve just been figgerin’ a bit—what with the drought ruining our crops and everything, this is going to be a tough year for us! MARCUS: It’s a good thing our hens haven’t failed us—we might be able to get by with the sale of our eggs! MARCUS: Good heavens, Maw—something’s wrong! There ain’t a egg out there tonight!
