🚨 New WP 🚨 (w/ Becerra, León-Díaz, @RalphLuet, Valencia):
Informality creates an inclusion vs evasion trade-off for progressivity, so welfare is hump-shaped.
In our Mexico-based calibration: welfare-maximizing progressivity is ~5x current.

🚨New paper on a neglected topic: women in jail.
In most countries, women are held in female sections of male prisons or in women-only prisons.
Using data from Italy and quasi-random assignment, we find women-only prisons cut recidivism by up to 16pp.

🚀 What an incredible experience at Malaysia’s National Institute of Public Administration! 🇲🇾
I was honored to be invited to speak on corruption—its measurement and the effects of monitoring to a large audience of civil servants from various Malaysian public institutions.
This workshop benefitted from key research insights from: @Ben_Olken @andreapratnyc @orianabandiera @TomValletti @DinaPomeranz @litschig Gerardino M.P. @sergallet
This was just the beginning—looking forward to interacting with PhD students and faculty members from @unimalaya with a workshop on Microeconometrics!
