North Korea stole $6.3 billion from Binance by inviting one of its engineers to a job interview at a company that didn't exist.
And the guy didn't even have access to the money.
It took them five months and two separate hacks to pull this off.
Back in June, an engineer on Binance's wallet team went looking for an AI tool and installed a tampered Homebrew package. Binance caught it, swapped the laptop and reset the passwords. Problem solved, they figured. Except by then the attackers already knew who worked on that team and what each person did.
So they went recruiting.
In September a different Binance engineer got a message on a real job site from someone calling himself a project director. First round was a video call with a fake HR person, who even shared a social media account full of personal photos so the whole thing felt legit. Second round was with the "CEO," who told him to download a coding assignment onto his work computer. It was loaded with malware nobody had seen before, and Binance's security software missed it completely.
Then they waited. On October 20 they used his laptop plus one of Binance's own internal AI tools to get onto two wallet engineers' computers, and one of those engineers had permission to spin up new code on Binance's systems. Nine days later the attackers did exactly that. They ran a script and used an Ethereum feature called EIP-7702 to hand themselves control of a hot wallet, one of the wallets Binance keeps online to process withdrawals. Money started pouring out at 8:05pm UTC.
It took Binance four hours to stop it, which works out to more than $25 million a minute.
And it took that long because of a safety feature. Binance splits the signing power on those wallets into pieces held by different parties, so no single employee can ever drain one alone. That sounds great until something goes wrong, because it also meant nobody could hit the off switch on their own.
For context, the previous record was Bybit's $1.5 billion in February 2025, also North Korea. This one is four times bigger. Binance has already refilled about 98% of it out of its own pocket and says customers won't lose a cent.
Binance says it blocked 57 suspected North Korean attacks this year, and the one that got through started with a guy who just wanted a new job.

Trump je Ukrajini ukinil obveščevalne informacije, rakete in Starlink ter odpravil sankcije na rusko nafto, medtem Lavrov nabija v Teheranu ZDA na kol.
Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov flew to Iran and spoke of Russia and Ukraine’s “civilian infrastructure,” while accusing the US and Israel of aggression against Iran.
Speaking in Tehran, he said Russia “does not intend to abandon its agreements with Iran, regardless of the external situation,” and is ready to help in the Iran–US conflict.
He also said it was not Russia, but the EU and the US, that began undermining global energy stability.

EXCLUSIVE: Elon Musk came to Donald Trump with the plan to throttle Ukraine’s use of SpaceX’s Starshield satellite internet network, sources have told the Telegraph.
The tech billionaire made the proposal during the US President’s row with Volodymyr Zelensky over strikes on Russian oil refineries.
‘The reality is that they were both in it,’ a senior source said of Musk’s and Trump’s involvement.
But after a night of carnage in Kyiv caused by the slowdown, Musk was alarmed about the possibility of adverse consumer reaction in Europe.
The SpaceX boss then proceeded to tweet, blaming the US administration, and ultimately, President Trump for authorising the slowdown.
‘He tweeted out that he was innocent and that it was the US administration that did it,’ the source said.

Palmer Luckey slams Silicon Valley for spending years trying to win China’s favor while refusing to work with the U.S. military: “A total abdication of responsibility.” 🇺🇸🇨🇳
“Let’s travel back 10 years to 2015. Google was trying to get into China. Facebook was trying to get into China. Microsoft was trying to get into China.
China had convinced these companies, including Apple, that it was going to surpass the United States as the world’s dominant economic superpower. They thought they could make trillions of dollars by working with China the way China wanted.
Google even had Project Dragonfly, a censored search engine for China that, according to the plan, could collect information on dissidents and report it to Chinese authorities.
For about a decade, you had a total abdication of responsibility by our tech companies to do anything for the United States. They were refusing to work with our military. Google famously pulled out of Project Maven after employee protests.
They were willing to accommodate China while refusing to help their own military.”

The tragedy of the violence in the West Bank is that it would be so easy to prevent; Israel is an advanced modern state that has all the means to do it. The violence is also viewed as abhorrent by most Israelis. It’s a consensus issue. However, because a small lobby is able to influence policy, it isn’t prevented despite the IDF and most everyone mainstream wanting these almost daily attacks to end. Attacks on journalists, diplomats, civilians, cars, homes. Even the one Christian Arab village in the West Bank is targeted.
A completely preventable tragedy however one views it.
And although there was some violence in the past, the crescendo in the past years has become awful; the new trend of attacks on Shabbat and the sense of impunity among those attacking that they know there won’t be arrests or prosecutions, despite all the warnings from the army and security services
It’s totally bizarre to see a small number of violent young men able to dictate the policy of a state of ten million.
Every country has to face this question at some point. Whether it will surrender to lawlessness or not. Countries like El Salvador decided not to. It shows that it’s possible.
