Everyone deserves a safe, secure home they can be proud of. Today I visited @Shelter to hear directly from their team and social housing campaigners about how we can deliver a new generation of council homes. As we strengthen the Social Housing Bill, we’re putting tenants at the heart of those changes, from protecting survivors of domestic abuse in social housing to giving council tenants more control over repairs and maintenance. Because delivering a new generation of social housing isn’t just about building more homes. It’s about making sure they’re safe, secure and shaped by the people who live in them.

This you?
The country is going down the pan and our Prime Minister is faffing around tweaking parking tickets. What is the point in Burnham if he refuses to touch the big issues like the ballooning benefits bill?

Parking should be straightforward, not another everyday hassle. Today we’re putting the brakes on rip-off parking charges - meaning drivers get a fairer deal, protections from being unfairly charged, and confidence that private parking providers are held to a higher standard. It's yet another step forward in this government’s plan to take the stress out of everyday life and ease the pressure on people's pockets.

Antisemitism is shamefully rising across the globe, and it's going to take all of us to tackle it. Yesterday I met leaders from the J7 to discuss this unique hatred targeting Jewish communities and to learn from each other's experiences and approaches. By listening, learning and sharing what works, we can strengthen our response to antisemitism and help ensure Jewish people in our communities can live safely and confidently.

I promised we'd make council tax fairer, and I’m getting on with the job. Too many working people have seen council tax debt spiral before they had the chance to get help. That's why we're introducing more time to pay, clearer warnings if you miss a payment and more support from councils. Thanks to @MartinSLewis and @mmhpi for their tireless campaigning to make this change happen. Here's everything you need to know ⬇️

On World Homeless Day, I want to thank the charities, organisations and individuals working tirelessly to support people experiencing homelessness and help deliver our mission to end rough sleeping for good. Nobody should face the fear of not knowing where they'll sleep tonight or when they'll next have a safe place to call home. And to people sleeping rough today: we see you, we haven't forgotten you, and we'll keep working every day to ensure you have the safety, security and stability you deserve.

Awaab’s Law set legal deadlines for social housing landlords to fix dangerous damp and mould - and is already helping to drive up standards in the social housing sector. We’re now moving to extend it to private landlords so that England’s 11 million private renters can get the same protections. Extending his law could more than double the number of homes covered by legal deadlines to fix dangerous hazards.

Three years since the terrorist attacks of October 7, we remember those who were murdered, honour their memory, and hold in our thoughts all those who continue to feel the hurt and loss of that day.   And for too many Jewish communities here in the UK, October 7 wasn't just one day: it marked the beginning of escalating antisemitism here on British soil.   Jewish communities should be able to live safely, freely and proudly. Today and every day, we stand with you.

We now know the Tories will put the interests of unscrupulous landlords over those of private renters. Speaking at the Conservative Party conference, the Shadow Housing Secretary told an audience that our transformative Renters’ Rights Act “has to go”. Only Labour will guarantee the security, rights and protections the Act has given private renters.
From PA, at 5:26pm. Katie Lam has suggested she would scrap the Labour Government’s Renters’ Rights Act. The shadow housing secretary told a fringe event at the Tory Party conference that the legislation “has to go”. From PA, at 6:13pm: A Conservative source said she had been speaking in the broader context of the restrictions and challenges faced by landlords, and this was not a policy announcement.

Today’s vote at the Green Party Conference crosses a line and is rightly being condemned across the political spectrum. Labour will continue working to ensure Jewish communities are safe and have their rights upheld. We must rid our society of the scourge of antisemitism.

A year ago, the Jewish community in Manchester faced a horrific attack on their right to live safely, freely and proudly in this country. Today, we remember Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz, honour the courage of the Heaton Park community, and continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with Jewish people across the UK. We will not stop fighting antisemitism until everyone is able to live their life as a Jew freely and safely.
