There's certain things in the military that only make sense to us, that are only funny to us, for reasons only known to us. I want to tell one of those stories.
Back in 2000 one of our guys, SFC "Stick" [name withheld] got a TBI on a deployment. He came back, rehabilitated, and seemed fine.
One night we were all gathering at the NCO club to play cards. I pulled up just as the ambulance did. Stick had an aneurysm that got to his brain, we later found out. He sat down at the table, and just ... checked out. Just like that.
Something about Stick -- he was our unit prankster. It was like he couldn't help himself. Rubber duckies or a dildo in the layout when the Colonel was coming through? Probably Stick. Always Stick, really.
So, his memorial was held in the chapel. His family and the command were up front. We were in the back of the balcony in our own little group. We tended to keep to ourselves.
The Chaplain comes out, and starts to speak, "Lord, today we are gathered here..."
Bennett whispers "... to say goodbye to our friend Stick's stinky boots..."
We all had to choke back laughter but we knew that Stick had gotten in one last prank on his way out.
The Chaplain sounded **exactly like Ren Houk.
RIP, Stick. We miss ya, buddy.

If our only choice is between slow replacement and quick replacement, there is no longer a point to electoral politics.
This is true - the RRC race is a bellwether.
Republican friends - a vote for @bofrench is a vote for a dark future for the GOP, a future in which conservative Indians, Latinos, and reasonable independents abandon our party and consign us to permanent minority status.
We can survive a 2-1 majority on the RRC.
We cannot survive Bo French.

The current make up of the Supreme Court is unlikely to be altered prior to then, unless there’s a vacancy and a Conservative leaning Justice is appointed. Let the legal professionals advance the 2A cause, but you can make a difference with a pop bottle or hacksaw.
