🚨 SURVEILLANCE - The government really is coming for your bank account, your privacy, and even your driving licence.
The Public Authorities (Fraud, Error and Recovery) Bill is in the HoL currently. On the face of it this bill is being created in order to stop benefits fraud but again it’s overly vague and could be used even for innocent mistakes.
1. Secret Bank Surveillance Mass financial surveillance.
The DWP will be able to demand access to your bank account, including balances, transactions, everything, without telling you. No warrant. No warning. Just in case you might be claiming any benefits incorrectly.
2. They can seize money directly from your account or wages. No court hearing. No defence. Meaning you are Guilty until proven innocent
3. Lose Your Driving Licence - If you owe the government or local authority money for anything, even a disputed council issued penalty for parking. They can ask a court to take away your driving licence.
4. Spy Powers Expanded - The government can force telecoms, councils, banks and more to hand over private data, and investigate you for up to 12 years after the fact.
5. Home Raids for Admin Errors - DWP investigators will be given search and seizure powers to enter homes with warrants to collect evidence. Giving a government department police powers.
This is more than about fraud. It’s about dystopian control.
It’s about building the infrastructure to monitor, punish, and financially restrain ordinary people at the government’s discretion 🚨
