After almost 100 years in Peak Buildings, the museum is moving. The buildings been a hotel, hospital and museum. What next?
We’re committed to Buxton Museum and Art Gallery’s future, and while announcing today it will leave its Peak Buildings base we’re actively looking for a new home in the town. And developing a great interim service.

We recently had a visit from artist #WilliamHull's descendants🎨
They came after seeing Hull's paintings on our #Instagram and were surprised to find 8 paintings, 1 sketch book and 3 bound volumes of illustrated letters in the #MuseumCollection🤩
A wonderful shared experience!
End of an era for me!

We are proud to be mentioned in @AmyLShakespeare's article on #repatriation in this month's @MuseumsAssoc journal. Lots of us have done really positive work on returning objects, despite the national narrative.

An interesting day packing up bones of extinct animals. This wolf species became extinct in Britain around 500 years ago. All bones found in the #PeakDistrict. Not my usual day at the museum.
Today I'm hopefully walking 52km, through sunshine and showers. Raising money for Breast Cancer Now. Any sponsership is very much appreciated!

With the first test of the Ashes beautifully poised, here’s a cartoon from George Woodward showing some 18th century sledging: “He’ll have you out to a certainty” 😃🏏
#Ashes2023 @bbctms

ALT Colourful 18th century cartoon of men playing cricket. They are dressed in white shirts and yellow breeches. The man batting is wearing a red brimless cap and says "Bowl fair sir". One man is bowling, another is wicket keeper, who is saying "He'll have you out to a certainty". A group of men are in the distance watching, with one of the spectators saying "Never saw a game of cricket better play'd".
Thanks to everyone who has checked in with me. It has been quite a shock but hopefully we'll get re-opened in some form soon. bbc.com/news/uk-england-derb…
