Sorry! 🤦♀️🙄
We can’t ban CO2 without tried&tested alternative.
Alternative MUST be found first with gov investment (aka taxpayer £) if that’s what they’re demanding. And must be proven to be higher welfare by science, not extremists.
No alternative means waving in imports still using CO2

UK pigs get backed up,overstocked on farm- a much greater welfare issue, could even lead to on farm welfare culls (are we really saying we want to throw high welfare UK pigs in the bin, disrespecting our animals whilst importing pork that doesn’t meet our standards?)

The pop up is back open this weekend! Saturday 9-2.
Pre orders welcome but not essential.
Our address is Radmore Farm,Northampton Road, Litchborough , Towcester, England, NN12 8HR
Let’s be clear, @GOVUK @DefraGovUK are looking to impose more standards on the uk food supply chain, and we all know the cost will be passed onto the farmer, taken from their bottom line which is currently in MAJOR deficit.
Whilst waving in imports that still use CO2 stunning 1/3
The Government has unveiled plans to phase out CO₂ stunning in pig slaughterhouses, with argon gas and electrical stunning among the proposed alternatives. ❌
While the move is intended to improve animal welfare, the pig sector has previously warned that any replacement must be commercially viable and avoid creating further problems for producers and processors.
A consultation is now open until December 21.

Don’t get me wrong, I want the highest welfare standards possible, the day I back down on that is the day I stop farming.
CO2 is currently the best tried and tested method for big numbers.
My pigs go through a different supply chain, small abattoir, electric stunning 2/3
Dear @andyburnham
Thanks for the advice to stock up on tinned goods.
Most helpful for the 34hr power cut we’ve just been thru rurally.
Bossed it with the power packs too ⚡️🔌
However my meat processing business lost a day’s production and staff morale is on the floor 1/2
Cue small businesses already struggling with highest ever taxes, highest ever overheads, highest ever COP, decide after many years of asking themselves why tf they’re working their arses off, compromising their own health for no return… may as well chuck in the towel
Hallelujah we have light!
Only took 34 hours
And the freezer contents are still frozen 🥳💃
Learnt after last time meat at the bottom veg at the top!
Now if it can stay on that would be superb ready for pigs coming to the butchery tomorrow. Already lost a day production 😒

When i was growing up, i was told not to lie, not even a white lie. Why are these people ok to do it whilst trying to damage other peoples business for their own gain? Why’s that ok?
Droughts in winter……how crazy does the climate have to get! The biggest thing we can all do about it? Stop eating meat and dairy. It takes 1,000 litres of drinking water to make just 1 litre of cow milk. Or 50 litres of water to make 1 litre of oat milk. While a quarter pound beef burger uses nearly 2,000 litres of water - two tonnes of water for just over 100 grams of beef burger. A plant based burger of the same size uses 90% less water, around 200 grams for the same sized 100 gram burger…

Replying to @DaleVince
1000L of drinking water to make just 1L of milk? Another guy peddling a topic he has no clue about. I don’t know many farms these day that even use drinking water on farms. Imagine a population growth and housing growth but not building a res since the early 90s. Let’s leave facts out tho ey. Send a bit more money to the Labour party to buy your next project.

The family farm tax was a catastrophic mistake. It should be consigned to history in this week’s Budget. Doing so would be the first step in the government repairing its relationship with rural Britain.

I am not the biggest fan of CO2 stunning. But consider it insane that this is having public money spent on it because of Waitrose man and woman groups like CIWF.
Instead of non-stun slaughter.
Although if we ban CO2 stunning here we would ban all such imports... right?

🚨 The Department for Transport got its accounts wrong by almost £20 BILLION.
That comes directly from the National Audit Office.
Seriously. Nearly £20bn of errors in the official value of Britain’s roads and railways.
How on earth does a Government department get figures THAT wrong?
And remember this is the SAME department that spent £251m on roads that will NEVER be built.
Meanwhile, this Government keeps telling us there isn’t enough money…
❌ £330bn borrowed since July 2024
❌ £70bn in tax rises announced
❌ Even more tax rises being considered
Perhaps before demanding another penny from taxpayers…
…they should get their own financial house in order.
Our tax money is a joke to these people.

Politically homeless here.
But briefly thought today, maybe the “new” tories have had chance to get off the treadmill, the status quo, and reflect where it all went wrong and look properly from the outside. Undoubtedly there’s been safe seat arrogance.
Are they worth a punt?
