Border security chief Major General Duncan Capps told MPs today "its only a matter of time" before a mass casualty event in the Channel and called it extraordinary one hasn't happened yet . Speaking to the Home Office Affairs select committee Capps said this years boats are getting bigger and more crowded . One boast this year carried 230 foreigners . They are now making 6-7 attempts before a successful crossing crammed into fewer larger dinghies. He flagged they are also shifting launches toward Normandy .
