CMAT on how Taylor Swift inspired her to pick up the guitar and start writing songs, and her admiration for Taylor’s songwriting: “I literally started writing rip-off Taylor Swift songs when I was 11. Like, the worst rip-offs of Taylor Swift songs ever. […] And she’s the best topline writer maybe ever. Like, the way that she does consonants and vowels in relation to melody is so impressive every time, and she had it from day one.”

Just got an email from a prospective PhD student containing the below. My response: I’m glad you enjoyed my work on [one short, genuine line]. It’s some of my best. As for supervising you, I think [polite refusal with an excuse - don’t mention the applicant’s AI use].

Massive undercovered media story: The number of influencers who are paid to produce content/shape opinion and don't disclose their funding sources. It produces huge distortion in the news/information marketplace and rewards, often very handsomely, the worst actors.

No I don’t deny that. I’ve paid you for tweets before. I haven’t for at least a year though. I also know you still get paid by others for tweets so I do think it’s fair to refer to you as an “influencer.” What percentage of your tweets are paid for?

Although I must say there’s a strain of chronically online “leftist” who are absolutely apoplectic that their chosen pet politicians do not hate Taylor Swift at all and instead openly embrace her. It’s funny as hell to watch and it’s funnier that their tantrums amount to nothing

Being right years ahead of others isn’t nearly as satisfying as people think. Nobody apologizes for treating you like a crazy. They just come back years later, repeating what you told them as if it’s some groundbreaking revelation because they finally heard it from someone else.
