๐จGOOD NEWS FOR BRAINTREE TODAY! ๐ฌ๐ง
The usual Care4Calais event at the Salvation Army for Wethersfield migrants is NOT taking place today!
So far, only ONE bus has arrived in Braintree, which is welcome news for local residents who have been raising concerns about these weekly gatherings.
Operation Vanguard and Essex Police have also been spotted out on patrol around the town.
It's good to see a quieter Thursday in Braintree for a change!
๐ฌ๐ง BUT WE ARE NOT STOPPING HERE!
This Saturday, 24th October, we will be back on the streets of Braintree making our voices heard!

A machete-carrying drug dealer who fled from police on an e-bike has been jailed for three years. ๐ช๐
Bobby Duxfield made off from the scene on a Surron e-bike, refusing to stop for police as he rode around the town at high speeds, narrowly missing pedestrians and other traffic. ๐จ๐ซ
Following an investigation by Darlington CID, the 21-year-old admitted the offences and appeared at Teesside Crown Court today (October 22) where he was jailed for three years. ๐๏ธ๐

๐ด SOUTH MOOR & CRAGHEAD โ NOT JUST PROMISES. A PLAN OF ACTION, BACKED BY RESEARCH.
A message from Jean:
Iโm Jean Thomson, Restore Britainโs candidate for South Moor & Craghead.
Everyone promises fewer potholes, safer streets and better services. But what happens when those promises arenโt delivered?
I want to go further than identifying problems. I want to establish who is responsible, what powers can be used, and what happens when those responsible fail to act.
I wonโt be doing this alone.
Restore Britain North Durham has spent months investigating property ownership, HMOs, supported accommodation, licensing records, mortgages and the companies operating across our constituency.
We already have evidence. We already have ongoing cases. And we already know many of the questions that need answering.
Hereโs how I intend to put that work into practice.
๐จ 1๏ธโฃ PROBLEM PROPERTIES โ ENFORCEMENT, NOT EXCUSES.
Where properties are repeatedly linked to serious nuisance, criminal activity or antisocial behaviour, I want the council to examine the evidence and hold the responsible landlords accountable.
The plan:
- Identify properties with documented recurring problems.
- Refer evidence to housing enforcement and the relevant council departments.
- Request inspections, licence-compliance checks and appropriate enforcement.
- Pursue licence revocation or other statutory measures where the legal grounds exist.
If that fails: Seek written reasons, escalate cases to senior officers and use formal complaints, scrutiny procedures or ASB Case Reviews where applicable.
The aim is to resolve the problem, not simply record another complaint.
๐ฎ 2๏ธโฃ POLICING โ PROVE THE APPROACH IS WORKING.
I want neighbourhood policing assessed against actual results.
The plan:
- Examine local crime figures, repeat incidents and identified hotspots.
- Question whether existing interventions have reduced offending.
- Press for better coordination between police, council enforcement teams and landlords.
- Seek measurable targets and follow-up reviews.
If that fails: Escalate documented concerns through senior policing representatives and the Police and Crime Commissionerโs office, using formal review and complaint routes where appropriate.
Residents deserve evidence of improvement, not endless assurances.
๐ก๏ธ 3๏ธโฃ SAFEGUARDING โ CHECK THE DECISIONS BEFORE SOMETHING GOES WRONG.
Our investigation has identified different accommodation providers operating in the same residential streets, including adjoining properties in South Moor.
Some support vulnerable young people. Others are linked to major government asylum-seeker housing contractors.
We need to establish whether placement decisions properly consider neighbouring accommodation, local risks and the suitability of the wider environment.
The plan:
- Seek reviews of relevant safeguarding and location assessments.
- Establish which organisations are responsible for placement decisions.
- Examine how local crime information, emergency cover and neighbouring accommodation are considered.
- Refer documented concerns to the appropriate safeguarding authorities.
If that fails: Escalate unresolved evidence to senior childrenโs services officers, safeguarding partners or regulators, depending on their responsibilities.
Protecting vulnerable people requires proper assessments, clear responsibility and action when failings are identified.
๐๏ธ 4๏ธโฃ HMOs, MEARS AND PROPERTY INVESTORS โ FOLLOW THE EVIDENCE.
Our North Durham property investigation identified:
๐ 46 Mears properties that are owned/licensed or both
๐ 17 Mears-linked properties with documented connections through a wider business and ownership network
๐ Properties purchased for as little as ยฃ30,000โยฃ40,000 before appearing in Mears-linked licensing records
๐ Different accommodation providers operating in close proximity in parts of South Moor and New Kyo, including vulnerable people being housed beside undocumented asylum seekers
โ
We are already taking action.
In Annfield Plain, our North Durham team has submitted multiple objections and further representations concerning a proposed five-bedroom HMO on Front Street.
We examined nearby licensing records, challenged the information provided about surrounding HMOs and raised concerns about parking, amenity, management arrangements and community safety.
We continued examining the application when revised documents were submitted.
The case is now scheduled for consideration by Durham County Councilโs North Area Planning Committee on 29 October. Our representations will be put before councillors.
That is the practical approach I want to continue.
The plan:
- Monitor new HMO applications and changes of property ownership.
- Examine applications against planning policies and existing local housing concentrations.
- Submit evidence-based objections where there are valid planning grounds.
- Request enforcement investigations where there is evidence of unauthorised use.
- Follow applications through to committee decisions where appropriate.
If an objection is unsuccessful: Examine the decision, scrutinise any conditions imposed, monitor compliance and report suspected breaches for enforcement. Where an application is refused and appealed, submit relevant evidence through the appeal process.
The objective is proper scrutiny before decisions are made, not simply complaints after the consequences are felt.
๐ท 5๏ธโฃ PUBLIC MONEY โ FOLLOW THE CONTRACTS AND CHALLENGE POOR PERFORMANCE.
I want to know what public money is being spent on, what services are being delivered and what happens when contractors repeatedly fail.
The plan:
- Examine relevant council contracts and published spending information.
- Request performance data and explanations for poor delivery.
- Challenge unsupported spending and questionable contract renewals.
- Seek formal scrutiny or audit consideration where the evidence warrants it.
If that fails: Escalate unresolved questions to senior officers, scrutiny committees and the appropriate audit or complaint procedures.
Public money must come with measurable responsibility.

๐ MY FIRST 90 DAYS โ THREE COMMITMENTS RESIDENTS CAN MEASURE.
I wonโt promise that one councillor can solve every problem in three months.
But I can promise work that residents can check, question and hold me accountable for.
๐ด FIRST 30 DAYS โ OPEN THE BOOKS.
I will establish a dedicated resident casework process and publish our first public action register.
Using our existing research, Iโll prepare the first formal evidence packs on priority housing, enforcement and safeguarding concerns and submit them to the relevant authorities.
Residents will know what has been raised, with whom, and what answers weโre seeking.
Sensitive addresses and personal information will remain confidential.
๐ด BY DAY 60 โ DEMAND ANSWERS AND ESCALATE UNRESOLVED CASES.
I will have formally requested a coordinated response to our documented housing and safeguarding concerns from the relevant council services and other responsible agencies.
Outstanding issues will be followed up with written requests for decisions, reasons and next steps.
Where the evidence and procedures justify it, Iโll initiate formal complaints, review requests or scrutiny referrals.
No issue will be recorded as resolved simply because somebody has sent an acknowledgement.
๐ด BY DAY 90 โ PUBLISH THE RESULTS.
I will publish my first South Moor & Craghead Accountability Report, setting out:
โ
What issues were investigated.
โ
Which authorities were contacted.
โ
What answers were received.
โ
What action has actually been taken.
โ
What remains unresolved and what the next escalation will be.
If progress has been made, residents will see the evidence. If it hasnโt, residents will know why and what I intend to do next.
---
๐ท WHO PAYS FOR THIS?
The initial work will use the existing councillor role, established council procedures, publicly available records and support from our research team.
I am not proposing a new taxpayer-funded department or an uncosted spending programme.
Any proposals requiring additional public expenditure would need to identify the funding source, the expected benefit and the impact on existing services.
๐ WHO HOLDS ME ACCOUNTABLE?
You do.
Through published action reports, transparent casework updates, public meetings and clear explanations of what has โ and hasnโt โ been achieved.
Accountability must apply to everybody โ including me.
---
SOUTH MOOR & CRAGHEAD DESERVES MORE THAN ANOTHER LIST OF ELECTION PROMISES.
Our research work started before this by-election was called. The Annfield Plain objections demonstrate that the team is already using the available procedures to challenge decisions.
My commitment is to carry that evidence-led approach into Durham County Council, pursue the available powers and report the results.
RESEARCH. EVIDENCE. ACTION. ACCOUNTABILITY.
JEAN THOMSON

Newcastle and the metro system is policed by an army of Nigerian security.
Across the North East, security staff are responsible for protecting people in our hospitals, supermarkets, shopping centres, pubs and nightclubs.
We have local residents and former door staff who understand this industry, the responsibilities involved and how quickly situations can turn dangerous.
When somebody becomes violent, a woman needs protection or an emergency develops, the people employed to keep others safe must be PROPERLY TRAINED, capable of RESPONDING and able to COMMUNICATE clearly. ๐ฌ๐ง
A SECURITY LICENCE MUST MEAN SOMETHING.
๐ซ If you cannot communicate in an emergency, handle a violent incident or physically perform your duties, you have NO BUSINESS working in security. Hospitals, supermarkets and nightclubs are not places to gamble with peopleโs lives. Companies employing incompetent staff must face serious consequences, and the SIA must be held accountable for failing standards.
The Security Industry Authority (SIA) is responsible for licensing security operatives, but Restore Britain believes the system needs a complete overhaul.
HERE IS WHAT A RESTORE BRITAIN GOVERNMENT SAYS IT WILL DO:
1. AUDIT EVERY SIA LICENCE โ
Launch a nationwide review of existing licences, rechecking identities, qualifications, criminal records and the right to work. Commission an independent investigation into the regulator itself.
2. INTRODUCE COMPULSORY COMPETENCE TESTING โ
Require frontline security staff to pass independently supervised competence assessments, English-language examinations and physical fitness tests appropriate to their roles. Withdraw licences where the required standards are not met.
3. HOLD SECURITY COMPANIES ACCOUNTABLE โ
Introduce compulsory business licensing, proper background checks on company directors and stronger oversight of subcontractors. Investigate businesses knowingly using fraudulent qualifications, false identities or illegally employed workers.
4. CRACK DOWN ON VISA AND QUALIFICATION FRAUD โ
Investigate sham sponsorship, fraudulent training certificates and illegal employment. Pursue criminal prosecutions, confiscation of criminal proceeds and director disqualification where serious offending is established.
5. RECRUIT AND TRAIN MORE BRITISH WORKERS โ
Introduce funded training, licence-fee support and recruitment through colleges, Jobcentres and veteransโ organisations.
Restore Britain has also set out its longer-term objective of an entirely British security workforce by the end of its first Parliament.
6. MAKE FAILURES HAVE CONSEQUENCES โ
Conduct a full review of SIA leadership, strengthen whistleblower protections and take enforcement action against companies and individuals responsible for serious breaches.
โ๏ธ THIS MATTERS HERE IN THE NORTH EAST.
From Newcastleโs nightlife to Sunderlandโs shopping centres and Durhamโs hospitals, security is a serious responsibility.
๐ฏ There are experienced, professional door supervisors throughout our region who understand that their job is far more complex and demanding than simply standing in a doorway.
BUSINESSES AND THE PUBLIC DESERVE COMPETENT SECURITY STAFF. SAFE AND SECURE VENUES. AND THE COMPANIES THAT CUT CORNERS MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE.
The question for security firms operating across the North East is simple:
๐ค Are your staff genuinely qualified and CAPABLE of doing the job theyโre being paid to do? ๐ง

Political parties on our side of politics are all too desperate to appeal to my generation, and entirely ignore the needs of anyone under 50. Why? Because they donโt vote in the same numbers.
Restore Britain will not do that - as weโve demonstrated. Our plan to replace the triple lock will restore some generational fairness, it probably wonโt win us many votes.
But we are going to make that argument regardless.
Replacing the triple lock, abolishing interest on student loans, hiking tax thresholds, scrapping stamp duty, overhauling the childcare system, enabling entrepreneurs to grow their business with no corporation tax, ending school holiday fines, slashing regulation to get the state out of their way, cutting VAT/tax on all parts of their life - I could go on and on. Our plan is coming together.
We are going to continue making our pitch to young working men and women who are trying to find their way in modern Britain.
Restore Britain will give them a genuine alternative at the ballot box.

A picture of the British economy ahead of the Budget:
The Joseph Rowntree Foundation predicts that average annual household incomes, after housing costs and adjusted for inflation, will be ยฃ440-ยฃ770 lower by 2030 than when Labour took office - potentially the biggest decline in living standards over a parliamentary term since records began in 1961.
Meanwhile, the IMF forecasts that government revenue as a percentage of GDP will rise faster in Britain than in any other major advanced economy, reaching 41.9% by 2031.
Almost two-thirds of Institute of Directors members say that they are pessimistic about the economy, while 73% expect investment to remain unchanged or fall over the next 12 months.
ScottishPower has warned that unpaid energy bills could reach ยฃ7 billion next year, while EDF forecasts that annual bills for a typical household could rise from ยฃ1,723 today to ยฃ2,204 next April.
People who moved homes in July spent 14.4% of their income on mortgage interest, the highest level since 2008 and almost double what they paid four years ago.
A combination of neoliberal economics and neoconservative foreign policy is putting the British economy under enormous strain, and that is before we encounter another major economic shock.
We at Restore Britain have set out our economic philosophy in considerable detail. This is how we intend to chart a new course and steer Britain away from the looming iceberg.
I give Reformers shit if I catch them attacking Restore Britain members.
Why? because we didn't ask for your vote nor do we need it.
We are building our own future while you sell yours out to Indians and foreigners for votes.
