Dakar 2026 is a historic opportunity for our young athletes to make Nigeria proud and inspire the next generation. As we send off Team Nigeria, my charge is simple: compete with pride, uphold our values and make every opportunity count. Through our grassroots programmes like the Invited Junior Athletes (IJA), we are building the next generation of champions. With President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s @officialABAT commitment to youth development, we are investing in athletes who can fly Nigeria’s flag today and rise to the global stage at LA28. Go to Dakar, make history and return as worthy ambassadors of Nigeria. 🇳🇬

To every Team Nigeria athlete who represented our great nation at the #Glasgow2026 Commonwealth Games, I say thank you. 🇳🇬 To our Gold, Silver and Bronze medallists across Para Powerlifting, Weightlifting, Athletics and Team events, your exceptional performances, resilience and commitment to excellence have made Nigeria proud. Whether you achieved victory as an individual or as part of a team, you demonstrated the strength, unity and determination that define the Nigerian spirit. To every athlete who competed and did not make the podium, please know that your efforts were equally valued. Your sacrifices, discipline, courage and dedication to wearing the Green and White with pride inspired millions of Nigerians. Every race, every lift, every throw and every moment of competition contributed to this remarkable journey. I am immensely proud of each and every one of you. Thank you for proving that the Nigerian spirit can never be broken. 🇳🇬💚

Every medal tells a story of sacrifice, resilience and excellence. It was inspiring to spend time with our world record breaker, Nwachukwu Goodness, following her historic Gold medal performance in the Women's Para Discus, and Orji Jessica, who marked her Commonwealth Games debut with a brilliant Silver medal. These outstanding athletes continue to make Nigeria proud and remind us that our future in sport is bright. Congratulations, champions. 🇳🇬🥇🥈 #TeamNigeria #Glasgow2026 #CommonwealthGames

Our domestic league is the foundation of the entire football ecosystem. If we get the league right, we strengthen the clubs, empower the players, create opportunities for the media, attract investors, and ultimately build a stronger Nigeria Football Federation. We cannot continue to watch our brightest talents leave for leagues in Vietnam and the Benin Republic in search of opportunities. Nigeria has the talent, the passion, and the market. What we need is a league that is professionally managed, commercially viable, and globally competitive. The time is now to put the Nigeria Premier Football League on the right path and build a sustainable football economy where clubs thrive, players flourish, fans are proud, and the media can also prosper. The future of Nigerian football begins with a stronger domestic league.

The success of the National Sports Festival showed us what is possible when innovation, collaboration and the right support come together. We attracted unprecedented private sector investment because we introduced fresh ideas and created value. There is no reason we cannot replicate that success in our domestic football league. As our Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko @ShehuDikko, has consistently maintained, the league can become more attractive to sponsors and investors if we work together to improve the product. We have a President, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR @officialABAT, who is committed to making this happen, and I believe that where there is a will, there will surely be a way. Our goal is simple: build a stronger, more professional league that creates opportunities for players, attracts investment, generates jobs, and contributes meaningfully to Nigeria's sports economy.

I arrived at our pre-Commonwealth Games training camp in Aberdeen, Scotland, to personally receive our athletes, coaches and officials as Team Nigeria begins the final phase of preparations for Glasgow 2026. Seeing our contingent arrive with so much determination and confidence reminds me why preparation remains the foundation of success. From inspecting the facilities to welcoming our athletes, I am satisfied that we have created the right environment for them to train, recover and compete at their very best. I was delighted to receive some of our early arrivals, including Folashade Oluwafemiayo, Favour Ashe and Patience George-Okon, alongside many other dedicated athletes and officials. As of Friday night, 54 members of Team Nigeria had arrived safely, with more expected over the weekend. Our focus remains simple: eliminate every avoidable distraction, provide world-class support, and allow our athletes and coaches to concentrate solely on winning for Nigeria. The atmosphere in Aberdeen is excellent, the facilities are first-class, and the team is in high spirits. Over the next three weeks, every training session, every recovery period and every detail will count as we prepare to proudly represent our nation at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. Nigeria believes in you. I believe in you. Now, let's make history together. #TeamNigeria #CommonwealthGames #RHINSE #NSC #RoadToGlasgow2026 🇳🇬

Another significant milestone in our drive to reposition Nigerian sports as we continue to deliver on the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria Sports Economy (RHINSE). I was delighted to receive the Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Glauk Konjufca, at the National Sports Commission, where we sealed the foundation for a bilateral sporting collaboration between our two countries🇽🇰🇳🇬. Kosovo's decision to identify Nigeria as its preferred partner in Africa 🌍 is a strong vote of confidence in our nation's immense sporting potential, human capital and growing influence in global sports diplomacy. Our discussions were productive and forward-looking, with a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation in football, judo and other sports. I am particularly excited by the proposal for an international friendly match between the Super Eagles and the Kosovo National Team, as well as the opportunities for capacity building in judo, where Kosovo has established itself as a global powerhouse, producing world and Olympic champions. As I told the Deputy Prime Minister, "I can tell you for free that we are super delighted for this honour by Kosovo and we are ready for every form of sporting collaboration that will mutually benefit both countries." This partnership goes beyond competition. It is about creating opportunities for athlete development, knowledge exchange, technical cooperation, investment and international sporting diplomacy. I also reaffirmed that, through the clear mandate of our dear President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the National Sports Commission is building an ecosystem that is economically friendly for sports, and this collaboration with Kosovo will further strengthen that vision. I commend the Government of Kosovo for this bold initiative and appreciate the engagements already held with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, which have helped lay the groundwork for this historic relationship. This is how we grow Nigerian sports, by building strategic international partnerships, creating new opportunities for our athletes and coaches, and opening more doors for sports to contribute meaningfully to our national economy. The future of Nigerian sports is global, and we are intentionally positioning our nation to lead. #NationalSportsCommission #Nigeria #Kosovo

I am impressed by the level of preparedness and commitment demonstrated by Lagos State as we conclude our inspection tour ahead of the maiden National Intermediate Games. Over the past three days, we inspected key competition venues, athlete accommodation facilities, and support infrastructure across the state. What we have seen gives us every confidence that Lagos is ready to host a world-class Games that will set a new benchmark for athlete development and sports excellence in Nigeria. The National Intermediate Games is a critical pillar of our sports development agenda. It is designed to bridge the gap between youth sports and elite competition, creating a sustainable pathway for talent discovery, nurturing, and progression. I am particularly encouraged by the strong support and commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu @jidesanwoolu and the Lagos State Government towards making this historic event a success. Lagos has a rich tradition of hosting major sporting events, and I have no doubt that the state will once again deliver an exceptional experience for athletes, officials, and sports fans across the country. The future of Nigerian sports lies in our ability to create opportunities for young talents to compete, grow, and excel. The National Intermediate Games represents another bold step in that direction, and together, we are building a stronger foundation for the next generation of champions.

Hello @SportyBetNG I'm still yet to get a concrete solution to my complains. I have sent multiple messages via DM, but up till now, no reply. This is really not nice!

I am happy to witness these important trials which further underscore the importance the Commission places on the sport of Taekwondo. Let me assure our athletes that their sacrifices and efforts to represent Nigeria and win medals for the country are not taken for granted by the Federal Government. There is now a renewed level of seriousness and commitment to sports development in Nigeria, and I urge all our athletes to remain patriotic, committed and disciplined as they strive for podium success at the African Championship in Mali.

A DG that sees and applauds good football. He’s clapping for @SportingLagos. His team, Stormers of Abeokuta needed a win today to stay in the running for promotion to the NPFL, but it didn’t stop him from celebrating good football. Thank you, Hon Bukola Olopade.
