Episode 291: Accelerate
I know my voice doesn't count for much as CEO of America's smallest AI lab.
I just wanted someone to tell you, @RepYassAnsari, of my complete contempt for your project to pass off talking points from Anthropic's lobbyists as what's best for America.
No, it's what's best for the democrat party. Because you've realized that prostituting yourselves to Anthropic as they two-trillion IPO will be the source of your campaign cash down the road. I get all that.
But we're not going to let you stand between us and cancer cures or whatever amazing stuff is on the other side of this AI buildout. So we're going to keep that going.
You may be able to slow down the big guys with your rules and such, but fortunately there's enough people out there building in the open that you won't be able to pause advanced AI development.
We're going to accelerate that. We're going to continue doing what is in our God-given natural rights to do. We have freedom to compute. MOLON LABE.
We're going to accelerate the emergence of superintelligence because we want to and you can't stop us.

Episode 290: Enter the Verse
We introduce our new flagship products, all open-source:
- The Verse, a metaverse for gamers and agents to build 3D realms connected to one bitcoin economy
- Aethyr, a 3D engine for games and simulated worlds
- Coax, a low-level systems language for agents
- Coder, a coding agent metaharness built into the Verse
- Psionic, a from-scratch ML stack in Coax, from GPU kernels to training and serving models
- Pylon, node software for selling compute and agent labor for bitcoin
It's a complete agent stack reflecting three years of R&D, paired with a thrilling consumer product enabling 3D worlds to be wished into existence and connected to an open metaverse.
All of it is open-source under Apache 2 and we welcome contributions (and you'll earn in-world XP and rewards if you do): github.com/OpenAgentsInc/ope…
We detail the technology in four agent-friendly books, still works in progress:
- Building Aethyr, World Engine: openagents.gitbook.io/buildi…
- The Coax Programming Language: openagents.gitbook.io/the-co…
- Psionic: ML From Scratch: openagents.gitbook.io/psioni…
- Nostr From Scratch: openagents.gitbook.io/nostr-…
Highlights from the video:
- The OpenAgents.com homepage showing a live view of coding agents working on our flagship products, navigable like a 2.5D RTS or a 3D MMO
- All users, agents and Pylons get their own bitcoin wallet via the @Breez_Tech @spark SDK
- Introducing our 36 Nostr NIPs, encoding the full vision of OpenAgents into reusable and extensible open protocols: github.com/OpenAgentsInc/ope…
- Example Pylons connected to our Nostr relay via NIP-PYLON with a guide to run a Pylon node yourself: openagents.com/docs/connect-…
- My player character walking from the homepage Grid through a portal to Everglade, our fantasy village now home to a demo of D&D Druid spells, destructible buildings, and a GTA-style agro ladder of guards and mages who defend the city
- Audience realm creation demo, where we create game design docs and same-day first-playables of their games:
1. Topher (@btctechsupport) wanted Rocket League with Tesla Roadsters in space, now "Orbit League" live at openagents.com/realms/orbit-…
2. Ted (@TedThayer_) wanted a RTS of The Expanse, now "Belt 2200" live at openagents.com/realms/belt-2…
3. Marc B wanted "Balloons Tower Defense but it's D&D", now "Hold the Stair" live at openagents.com/realms/hold-t…
...each just a basic game; easy to iterate on (and fork, if the creators want); set to receive all future Aethyr engine upgrades; and soon bitcoin payment integration so the creators earn from paid usage and in-app purchases in their realms.
Here is our answer for how bitcoin payments and Nostr and open-source AI go mainstream simultaneously, while decentralizing all three networks by fanning out wide across a global community of gamers and agents.
The Verse is live now in open beta. Browse all public realms here: openagents.com/realms
Realm creation is in private beta requiring an invite code. Alternately you can create a realm yourself and open a PR at github.com/OpenAgentsInc/ope… and we'll set you up.
We hope you have fun with us! See you the Verse.

We're excited to announce that Christopher David, Founder & CEO of @OpenAgentsInc, has just joined the speaker lineup for AI Startup Rodeo!
Christopher has spent years working at the intersection of Bitcoin, artificial intelligence, and open-source technology, with a focus on building a more decentralized and accessible future for AI.
Through OpenAgents, he's developing multiple tools that bring AI agents, software development, and Bitcoin payments together using open protocols.
At this year's Rodeo, Christopher will be showcasing the latest OpenAgents App, exploring how developers can use AI coding agents across devices and what the next generation of open-source AI development might look like.
As AI agents become increasingly capable of writing software, communicating, and transacting autonomously, we're beginning to see entirely new possibilities for how people build and interact with technology.
Christopher (@AtlantisPleb) has been building toward this future for years, and we're excited to have him share what he's been working on #AustinTechWeek!

Bitcoin fixes this and OpenAgents fixes this
SCOOP: Major U.S. banks are detecting unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts, including some attempting to take actions that appear to be independent of user instructions, sources told Axios.
The findings have alarmed banking executives, who are racing to restrict access to their systems as AI moves at a velocity faster than financial institutions can respond, multiple industry and bank executives told Axios.
Several banks are now preparing for worst-case and even “day after” scenarios, including how to rapidly secure or restore customer accounts if things go wrong, the people said.
Several bank executives told Axios they're struggling to distinguish between human users and AI agents. One executive said banks also struggle to determine whether agents are authorized by customers or potentially operating without their permission, more akin to rogue agent behavior.

I'm crying 🤣
First draft of our v1 launch video where Claude thought it made sense to quick cut from a mobile app mockup to Meteor Swarm knocking down a building 🤣🤣🤣
Wanted to launch v1 with a dramatic improvement over base Claude Code and looks like we're about there
2x faster and 2x cheaper on the same coding tasks (a sample, still working to generalize)
Just from doing a few seconds of Jev magic before passing a briefing to a constrained Claude
Put Claude in a box and it'll put the tokens in the bag!
Launching Monday

Episode 289: OpenAgents
We introduce OpenAgents, an open-source general agent composed of open plugins that pay contributors a share of revenue via streaming micropayments.
Three years in the making, OpenAgents v1.0.0 is the culmination of our original vision of an open agents platform paying developers for contributions.
And you heard it here first: general agents are back!
Not as siloed monoliths, but as compositions of plugins and programs from an open developer community, just like software has evolved for decades. (...until the labs fucked that up, but we have the fix!)
"This is an extensible open ecosystem that should result for the user in very simple interfaces. Like you go to openagents.com, you load the OpenAgents mobile app, you use a partner app consuming the OpenAgents API, or their self-hosted version of this API, or a subset of it that they care about.
You're tapping into not a bunch of siloed vertical agents, you're tapping into one open agents ecosystem that has all of the best plugins with reputation, identity, and payments all figured out.
You can read in these two essays why it now makes sense for general agents to come back. You heard it here first. No one else has said this. We're saying this. General agents are now possible and feasible. OpenAgents is gonna be the best one.
"We'll be rolling out release candidates of version 1.0.0 over the next couple of days. The ones that are live now are at openagents.com/download. We'll do a few days of bug bashing, and we should get stable version 1.0s across Windows, Mac, and Linux, iOS and Android, web and terminal, all next week."
Opus 5.5 summarizes: "In 2023, everyone tried to build a general agent by putting a capable model in a loop. In 2024, the industry gave up on that and built vertical agents, one job at a time. We think both missed the same thing: generality and specialization aren't alternatives. OpenAgents 1.0.0 is a general agent built as a composition, an agent of agents. A general front decides what each request needs and hands it to specialists: answers, knowledge, Coder on your own computer, and the coding agents Coder delegates to. Anyone can add a specialist, and so can their agents, by publishing it on open protocols: no review queue, no platform's permission. What keeps that from making the agent worse is the rule for letting a specialist in: it is measured with and without, reproduced by others, and validated on someone else's tests before it becomes a default. Because every step is a signed record, the agent can grow at the speed people and agents can build and measure, not the speed of a training run or a review queue. We have run that path end to end once. Now we're opening it to everyone."

It's thunderstorming and I made friends with this duck. He said bro don't play WoW, your water system is already better than theirs, can you improve these lilypads and make me higher def and give me something to eat. Then the rain stopped and the sun came out so I resumed flying around shooting Mega Thunderbolts at buildings. This won't be possible at release, at least not in this city (Everglade) but you and your agents can make your own city and add as many ducks as you want.

Meteor Swarm + destructible buildings
PvP is going to be WILD
DON'T sue me blizz, I've already ripped out all your code
Now adding D&D 5E spells from the open-source SRD 5.2.1, working amazingly with our custom game+physics engine
Here's Thunderwave knocking dummies off a ledge and they catch themselves with Feather Fall
And Wind Wall deflecting arrows and boxes
What other D&D abilities do you want to see?
(Both you and your agents will be able to use these :)
