#OPINION | "Last month, China’s principal science funder selected 44 young researchers (all under 35) and committed to funding them for up to 15 years with no short-term performance reviews. India should adopt a version of this, taking the sensible bits and leaving out the rest" "China’s process does have some checks. The funding comes in five-year chunks, and only a proportion of the researchers carry on at the end of the five- and ten-year marks. The amounts increase with each funding block; so, most of the funding comes in at the end" Tap to read more 👉 hindustantimes.com/opinion/g… (✍️@AriGos)

Arindam Goswami (@AriGos) writes for @timesofindia on what might bust the AI bubble. He argues that a credit squeeze is the likeliest trigger for a bust, combined with weak revenue, capability diffusion, and slowing progress in the models, and that it would be a financial event first, since the technology itself would remain and get cheaper. For India, he urges spending public money on inference capacity after prices fall, and funding the adaptation of open-weight models to Indian languages and sectors. Read more: tinyurl.com/mtbmcd6k

Please do give this oped of mine a read. R&D is a very important factor for sustained economic growth.
Arindam Goswami (@AriGos) writes for @htTweets on why India should grant researchers funds and be patient with results. He argues India should adopt a version of China’s long-term fellowship for young scientists, taking the sensible bits and leaving out the rest. His proposal is a seven-year renewable fellowship with a plan for exit, funded under the ANRF Act and overseen by an independent board of working scientists. Read more: tinyurl.com/3zhh649x

Listen in as @8Gorkhascholar and I discuss a very pertinent issue. Do let us know your views too.
On 8th October, the US Labour Secretary, with Vice President JD Vance beside him, suspended eight companies from PERM. This is the first step towards an employer-sponsored green card. Four of the eight are India's largest IT firms. Microsoft and Adobe are on the list too. The same day, a US admiral ended a six-day visit to Delhi after major joint military exercises. Join Arindam Goswami (@AriGos) and Brigadier Anil Raman (Retd.) (@8Gorkhascholar) in this episode of All Things Policy as they argue why it is time India stopped playing nice and why India should use its leverage in defence cooperation and other areas. In today’s episode, we will look at the geopolitical underpinnings and impact of these sorts of decisions. We will also test the main argument of the op-ed written by Anil on this issue. We will examine how the US midterms on 3rd November and China have probably had a bearing on this. And we will ask what the economic evidence says about the effect of such curbs on American innovation and wages. Please do check out this piece I'd written for @IndiasWorld_mag and share your views.
Arindam Goswami (@AriGos) writes for @IndiasWorld_mag on what Huawei’s patent deal with Qualcomm says about tech restrictions. The piece argues the deal doesn’t prove restrictions pushed China to build its own technology. China’s licensing earnings jumped in 2017, before the main US curbs, and it still earns only about three cents per research dollar. For India, it suggests pooling public-sector patents behind a single licensing window. Read more: tinyurl.com/262t6zub

Some books that I read over the last couple of months. Want to add Ann Patchet’s “Whistler”, couldn’t add the pic here. All highly recommended in case anyone is looking for something to read….

A BJP booth level agent filed 5,359 Form 7 objections in Uttarakhand’s Kichha, mostly seeking the deletion of Muslim voters’ names. He claimed the ERO initially refused to accept the bulk objections but accepted them after he complained to the ECI. Investigation by @AshwineSingh and @Basantrajsonu newslaundry.com/2026/10/24/u…

This! Plus, as an academic, why would you uncritically use religion as a framework?! Makes no sense!

Agree. His religiosity and invocation of religion after every two sentences, effectively reducing Muslims to just their religious identity, made me lose interest in his views. Obviously, he still shouldn't be jailed for just his thoughts & speeches, and surely not without trial.
Couldn't get past the Quranic injunctions inserted by Sharjeel after every 5 sentences in that interview. You cannot profess and strive for equality within a religious framework. Religion is a deeply discriminatory and oppressive construct.

While some might make the case that the discrimination against Muslims stems from their religion and hence invoking and sticking to Islam very closely is not very weird, I think it reduces individual rights to just religious rights and causes Muslims more harm than good.

This is very simple factual reporting without any spin. And raises real issues. But look the anger and whining by many infracels in the replies and QTs. Seeing conspiracy everywhere. You can't solve problems you don't acknowledge.
India is building US-style expressways to move freight faster. But many truckers still prefer older roads, where food, repairs and rest stops are cheaper. Aryan Gupta explains what’s putting the country’s $130 billion bet at risk: bloom.bg/4Bn5lr4

That's why I find it surprising that people in Mumbai, who should be most affected by this, still support Fadnavis' supposed infra push. Even otherwise sane folks like @bhaumikgowande seem to be fans of Fadnavis. Saw some of his posts pitching Fadnavis for PM!! Surprising.

Hehe yeah that took me by surprise too. Fadnavis for 10 years has done the exact opposite of what Bhaumik otherwise advocates.

That bus part. I've lived thru the opposite in NYC, known for its subways. MTA boosted bus fleet over 20% in my 20 years here. Long accordion buses, bus lanes, nicer buses with charging station. Bus ridership doubled since late 90s. I often prefer buses to smelly subways!

The GRU hacked into Jared Kushner's iPhone. Dutch military intelligence (MIVD) then recruited a GRU spy who gave them access to the hacked phone. What MIVD discovered was that Kushner had access to two bank accounts --one Azerbaijani, the other Israeli --where Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Emirati ruler Mohammed bin Zayed deposited money. It sounds like a slightly far-fetched episode of "Slow Horses," but it's real. And it proves just how eye-poppingly corrupt this administration was and continues to be as its "special envoy" decides the fate of tens of millions in Europe in the Middle East. Simply incredible reporting by Matthew Cole, drawn from his new book on Kushner. vanityfair.com/story/jared-k…
