đ¨ Ben White on Arsenalâs Carabao Cup exit against Fleetwood Town:
đŁď¸ Reporter: âBen, how do you explain tonightâs defeat?â
đŁď¸ Ben White: âHonestly, I think the whole situation was confusing. They wore our traditional red and white, we had to wear our away kit, and somehow we ended up watching them celebrate at Highbury.
âBut the biggest disappointment was the penalty shootout. We had a chance to put the game away, but Bruno stepped up and missed the decisive penalty.
âAt this point, I donât know whether we lost because of the wrong kit, the penalties, or because nobody remembered to tell us this was actually an Arsenal match!â

đ¨ Mikel Arteta on Max Dowmanâs red card:
đŁď¸ âItâs difficult to see the incident properly from the cameras and make a fair judgement in that moment. I prefer to watch it back properly, understand exactly what happened, and then I can assess the situation.
âWhen youâre on the touchline, you have to be careful with your reaction because sometimes what you see in real time can be different from what actually happened. I want to review the incident first before giving a proper opinion on the decision.
âWill Max learn from this experience? Yeah, we learn from everything. Every experience in football teaches you something, whether itâs a good moment or a difficult one. The important thing is how you respond, take the lessons from it and continue to improve.â
đ¨ Mikel Arteta on what he told Max Dowman after his sending off:
đď¸ âI asked him, âAre you happy with what youâve just done? Do you realise that you may have just ruined our chances of reaching the next round because of a moment of frustration?â
âThere was no need to react that way, especially when you know youâre already on a yellow card. What exactly were you trying to achieve? You have to understand the situation youâre in and think about the consequences of your actions.
âWhat frustrated me the most was that he was the one who ended up suffering the consequences. The other player walked away without a card, while Max was sent off. If youâre going to let your emotions take over, at least understand what youâre putting at risk. You cannot allow yourself to be provoked into doing something that hurts your own team.
âBut beyond the red card itself, what disappointed me most was the lack of composure. I constantly speak to these young players about humility, discipline and how they should conduct themselves, especially when things arenât going their way.
âMax is a talented boy, and I will continue to support him, but talent alone is not enough at this level. You must learn to control your emotions, respect the game and make better decisions under pressure.
âHe will learn from this, but he needs to understand that wearing this shirt comes with responsibility. You cannot preach discipline in training and then abandon everything youâve been taught when you step onto the pitch.â
đ¨ Jurrien Timber on Arsenalâs Carabao Cup exit against Fleetwood Town:
đŁď¸ Reporter: âHow do you explain tonightâs result?â
đŁď¸ Timber: âI think the kit situation affected us more than people realise. They were wearing our traditional red and white, playing at Highbury, and we had to wear our away shirt.
It was confusing. Normally when you see eleven players in those colours celebrating at Highbury, you assume Arsenal have won.
Unfortunately, tonight we were the other team.â

đ¨ Mikel Arteta on what he said to Max Dowman âAre you happy? I am disappointed.â
âYes, I know that one incident must have been overly scrutinised by the media. Yes, Max is like a son to me. Heâs young and has his head all over the place.
But I wonât excuse his behaviour. Kicking an opponent while theyâre down is very unprofessional. That act alone can label you a bad guy.
So young, and this early in his career. Believe me, he doesnât want to become a target for the defenders.
I confronted him. We lost the game and he definitely contributed to it. I donât care what anyone say.
I simply asked him: Are you happy? I am disappointed. Itâs a sad day for us.
Itâs difficult to say anything about Dowman from the cameras. I want to watch it again to assess the situation.
We learn from everything.â

đ¨ Refs Cam captures the tense exchange between Martin Ădegaard, Bruno GuimarĂŁes and referee Michael Salisbury following Max Dowmanâs red card against Fleetwood.
đŁď¸ Martin Ădegaard: âHow can you send him off for that? Heâs only a kid! Youâre showing a young player a red card in a game like this. Whereâs the understanding?â
đŁď¸ Bruno GuimarĂŁes: âCome on, referee, heâs still young. He reacted in the heat of the moment, and youâre sending him off? Surely you have to consider the circumstances!â
đŁď¸ Michael Salisbury: âHis age doesnât exempt him from the rules. Every player is responsible for their actions, regardless of how young they are. The decision stands.â
đŁď¸ Martin Ădegaard: âThat decision could end up costing us this game. Youâve made a huge call, and honestly, I donât think youâve got it right!â
đŁď¸ Bruno GuimarĂŁes: âYou need to understand the consequences of decisions like this. Weâre Arsenal, and weâre not going to stay quiet when we believe an injustice has been done!â

đ¨ David Luiz: âArteta should be blamed for this defeat.â
âItâs been a long time since Iâve watched any Premier League side play. Tonight I decided to watch my former team.
Did I enjoy the game? Not a simple yes or no. I certainly enjoyed how both teams squared up.
For a moment you wouldnât know it was the Premier League champions playing against a lower division side. But there is a saying in English football: there is no such thing as a small club.
Even the underdogs can have a good day at the office. The ending of this game hasnât reflected the true nature of the game.
I donât understand why Arteta started those academy boys. To give them minutes? Or a show of quality? I donât know.
But I do know one thing: you must mix talent with experience. Arteta didnât do that, at least in the first half.
Max is an incredible young lad, but his ability to control his anger and rage is something I think the psychologist should consider educating him on.
And Abi it Kai. He played well tonight. The only thing missing was the goals. I rate him highly. He knows how to score, except that tonight wasnât his best night.
I must congratulate Fleetwood for at least taking the game to penalties. At that point we already knew there would be one winner.
Itâs English football. It might not start very entertaining, but count on everything to make it an exciting end.
Bruno missed a penalty. That showed you the side who came prepared. That would be Fleetwood. Thatâs exactly what I mean by no such thing as a small club in English football.â
đ¨ Patrick Vieira on Max Dowmanâs red card:
đď¸ âFor me, that was a very poor decision from the referee. I donât understand how you can send a young player off in that situation. Look at the challenge that came before his reaction. The opponent was going in aggressively, and Dowman had every reason to be frustrated.
Letâs be honest, Dowman was causing them real problems, and sometimes you can see the frustration building when a player is difficult to deal with. But the referee has to look at the whole situation, not just the reaction that follows.
What disappoints me is that the referee saw the incident and still decided to punish Dowman without properly considering what led to it. The boy wasnât throwing punches or getting into a physical fight with anyone. So, to send him off for his reaction, without taking the initial challenge into account, is difficult to understand.
These decisions can change a game completely, and I think the referee got this one badly wrong. You have to protect young players, but you also have to be fair to them. For me, Dowman didnât deserve to be sent off for that.â

đ¨ Arteta after Carabao Cup exit You canât win everything:
"In football, these things happen. You simply cannot win every competition, and we cannot be the only side collecting trophies while the rest of the Premier League looks on. Sometimes you have to leave one for someone else it helps keep the balance in the game.
Iâm proud of the players. Regardless of the result, they put in a strong shift and gave everything they had. The boys really tried tonight.
Congratulations to Fleetwood. They fully deserved the win. They played a very good game, showed real quality and desire, and there is no doubt they earned their place in the next round."
đ¨ Toni Kroos on Nico Pazâs performance against Torino:
âWatch Nicoâs goal against Torino. A header. I had to watch it twice because I thought theyâd sent me the wrong player.
I remember Nico as a young player at Madrid. Very comfortable on the ball, always looking for a pass that other players hadnât seen yet.
One day in training, he tried something difficult and lost possession. I told him, âYou donât have to prove youâre clever every time you touch the ball.â
He asked, âSo I should play safe?â
I said, âNo. You should know when the difficult pass is worth it.â
Thatâs the thing about talented young players. They often think their job is to show everyone what they can do. The really good ones eventually understand their job is to decide matches.
Against Torino, Como were losing until the 82nd minute. Nico assists the equaliser. Five minutes later, he scores the winner himself. Then Como score again.
He didnât need 90 minutes of highlights. He needed five minutes to change the result.
And people will ask why a player like that isnât at Real Madrid.
Itâs a fair question, but Madrid is a difficult place for a young footballer. Sometimes youâre surrounded by established players and the opportunities donât arrive when you need them. You can stay and wait, or go somewhere youâre allowed to make mistakes and learn from them.
At Como, Nico doesnât just have to play well. People look at him when the team is behind. Thatâs a different education.
I actually think the most interesting thing tonight wasnât the goal. It was the assist before it. When youâre losing late, everybody wants to be the hero. Nico saw a teammate in a better position.
Then, when his own chance came, he took it.
I hope people donât rush to decide where he must play next. Let him enjoy becoming the kind of player that makes those decisions difficult.
Although I will say this: if you keep winning matches like that, eventually the biggest clubs stop asking whether youâre ready.
They start asking why they let you leave.â
