NIO’s “Key Technologies and Industrialisation of High-Power-Density Continuous-Wave Winding Electric Drive Systems” project has won First Prize in the Science and Technology Awards presented by the China Society of Automotive Engineers, the most prestigious awards in China’s automotive industry.
Since NIO began developing its electric drive technology in 2015, it has evolved through four generations of electric drive systems over 11 years, achieving milestones including the world’s highest-power copper-rotor motor and the world’s first mass-produced 925V continuous-wave winding electric drive system.
The 925V continuous-wave winding electric drive system achieves a motor power density of 19.06 kW/kg, a controller power density of 226.92 kW/L, and a peak boost-charging power of 202.78 kW.
Through in-house R&D, NIO has overcome three major industry challenges: mass-production processes for highly insulated continuous-wave windings, integrated thermal management and compact packaging, and the coordination of integrated boost charging. These breakthroughs address longstanding industry bottlenecks in the mass production of high-performance, miniaturised electric motors, where low manufacturing yields have been a persistent challenge.
To date, NIO’s electric drive technology development has resulted in 146 granted patents, and the company has contributed to the development of six national standards.

Much of the goodwill Chinese people have toward African and Latin American countries can be traced back to Mao Zedong.
To us Chinese, Mao Zedong is our hero.
Mao uplifted farmers and the working class in China, united the Chinese people, led us to defeat foreign invaders, and founded an independent country so we could all live with dignity.
Mao supported the heroic struggle of the African people against imperialism and colonialism.
He was one of the greatest leaders in world history, and one of the most demonized by the West.
How would you react if someone slandered Nelson Mandela or Martin Luther King? Mao Zedong liberated the Chinese people from serfdom and the feudal system. They all accomplished things of great historical significance. BTW, Both of these two men are held in extremely high regard in China. They’ve even been featured in Chinese textbooks.

You want to add that Mao was a great leader and he made Chinese proud when he declared “Chinese people have stood up” in 1949. Mao supported African people’s struggle for independence (Cameroon, Algeria where your parents came from). So you were seriously brainwashed in France.
You can tell whether a feature is actually useful by whether people use it in their daily lives.

Let’s put it this way: if Mbappé couldn’t play football, he would most likely have been among those involved in the recent riots on the streets of France. An “idol” in France who lacks a proper education and “brains” has, ironically, become linked to the very issue of education that the French people have been advocating for recently.
Kylian Mbappe dropped by two major brands in China after a video circulated online in which the French football star apparently joked about former leader Mao Zedong

NIO's in-house-developed 46105 large cylindrical battery is about to enter small-scale pilot production. Most likely, the first batch of 46105 cells will be intended for the 120 kWh battery pack. EVE Energy or Gotion High-Tech could be the companies responsible for mass production.
Last year, NIO's major shareholder CYVN acquired McLaren Automotive and subsequently merged it with Forseven, a British luxury EV startup. In 2024, Forseven signed a technology licensing agreement with NIO, allowing it to use NIO's vehicle platforms and technologies for new vehicle development in exchange for a licensing fee. Put simply, NIO now has the financial resources to move forward with its own large cylindrical battery development.
Last year, NIO's 4680 battery developed for McLaren had already reached the A-sample stage. At the time, there were reports that EVE Energy might be responsible for mass production. So it wouldn't be surprising if EVE Energy were selected for the 46105 large cylindrical battery this time around.
Why is NIO developing large cylindrical batteries?
As we all know, an EV battery pack consists of rows of individual cells (essentially small batteries). In the 46105 large cylindrical cell, "46" represents its diameter of 46 mm, while "105" represents its height of 105 mm. The planned energy density is 292 Wh/kg. Higher energy density at the cell level helps optimize cell placement within the limited space of a battery pack, increasing the pack's overall capacity.
Compared with conventional cylindrical batteries, large cylindrical cells offer lower internal resistance and a simpler longitudinal current path. Meanwhile, batteries featuring an all-tab design can better overcome the traditional trade-off between high energy density and high safety performance compared with conventional single-tab cells. This also paves the way for high-rate fast charging.

The 160,000th 3rd-gen NIO ES8 was delivered in Xi’an today, further extending its record in China’s RMB 400,000-class premium all-electric passenger vehicle market.
More than a year after its launch, the ES8 is still maintaining sales momentum of over 10,000 units per month. That’s truly an exceptional achievement in today’s highly competitive Chinese automotive market.
In September, the ES8 once again ranked No. 1 in sales among models in the RMB 400,000 price segment.

How many cars do other automakers need to sell to match Ferrari’s profit per vehicle?
In the first half of 2026, Ferrari generated €239,401 in profit per vehicle delivered, after deducting production costs, administrative expenses and selling expenses. Without a doubt, it is the most profitable automaker in the world.
By comparison, other automakers have to work extremely hard to match Ferrari’s profit per vehicle.
The three closest competitors are Jaguar Land Rover (around 10 vehicles), Porsche (around 25) and Tesla (around 41). While Jaguar Land Rover and Porsche benefit from premium pricing, Tesla’s impressive profitability is largely driven by its relentless focus on supply chain cost control and minimalist vehicle design.
Among Chinese automakers, BYD and Great Wall Motor (GWM) have already outperformed the industry average of around 102 vehicles per Ferrari-equivalent profit. Their performance even surpasses that of major automakers such as Renault, Volkswagen and Stellantis.
NIO (around 125 vehicles) is also performing well, with profitability ahead of a range of European, Japanese and South Korean automakers.
Here’s how other Chinese automakers compare:
XPeng: around 129 vehicles
Geely: around 144 vehicles
Chery: around 181 vehicles
Leapmotor: around 458 vehicles
Changan: around 517 vehicles
JAC Motors: around 721 vehicles
BAIC: around 1,034 vehicles
Li Auto: around 1,135 vehicles

The 60 kWh long-range battery for NIO firefly is finally here! Official launch on October 23! ⚡
The firefly originally came with a 42 kWh LFP battery as standard. The new long-range version switches to a 60 kWh NMC battery.
One of the key reasons NIO chose NMC is weight management.
While a 60 kWh LFP battery would be significantly cheaper, the battery pack would also be much heavier, potentially compromising the car’s handling.
Now, the overall vehicle weight is almost identical between the 60 kWh long-range and 42 kWh standard-range versions.
Powered by a CATL NMC battery, the new pack delivers a CLTC range of 560 km — the longest in its class. It easily covers everyday urban driving while offering plenty of extra range for road trips and weekend getaways.
With both 60 kWh and 42 kWh options available, users can choose the range that best suits their needs.
NIO’s three brands have always championed a “natively upgradeable architecture” — chargeable, swappable, and upgradeable.
Once pre-orders open for the 60 kWh battery, both existing and new users will have the opportunity to upgrade their battery and enjoy longer range without having to replace the entire car.

Although this feature may have little practical use or real-world application, and may not even be permitted by regulations, Tesla really knows how to put on a show.
Out-of-the-box thinking and innovation are genuinely embedded in the company’s DNA — or perhaps they’re simply innate in Elon Musk himself. The impact of a launch event like this goes far beyond global reach; it can resonate for more than a decade.

The only thing holding NIO firefly back from flying even higher might be production capacity.
Thankfully, it looks like that issue has been resolved?
