Just a couple days left and we can all be done with the ads, and the lawn signs, and texts, and calls…
Both @maggykrell and I are on the ballot and I hope we have earned your support and vote to return to our positions in the legislature.
Don’t forget to turn in those ballots before the end of the day Tuesday - @saclib are vote centers (vote in person or drop your ballot).
Almost there…

Joining with all who have expressed sorrow at the loss of this icon today.
What a life to have lived. She was truly a legend and I’m proud to be one of many who had the opportunity to see her work in person. Sending love and light to her family.

The average age of CA Assembly members is 49 & the average age of CA Senate members is 55. But, younger leg staffers are gaining access to positions of influence in the capitol, even as their generations remain underrepresented among elected officials

This morning, I was honored to present Broadway Sacramento with a resolution commending their 75 years of uplifting performing arts in the Sacramento Region. As a champion of the creative economy, I am proud to support their work and am grateful that Sacramento is home to the largest nonprofit musical theater company in California. Thank you Broadway Sacramento for all that you do!

Always fun to see families from across the region interacting with all the folks who do flood control, maintenance, water, repairs and emergency management for Sacramento.

#TeamAshby thanks Gary Simon and the Juneteenth Black Chefs Collaborative (JBCC) for the invitation to last night’s cooking demonstration. Chefs Willie Williams and Claudia Newman are excellent at sharing their knowledge of how classic soul food dishes can be prepared in a healthier way.
Team Ashby also congratulates Chefs Ernesto Hayes and Jamie Mack for their work in helping to make JBCC a cultural cornerstone of Sacramento’s Farm to Fork movement. Thank you for your time, effort, and energy toward using food as a means of bringing people together!

SEIU 1000 is taking to the streets today all over the Sacramento region (and the State).
This strike and the bill we put on the Govenor’s desk are all about the same thing - a conversation on the future of “workplace”.
For a great number of people there is value in working in a traditional office setting - either a need to meet or communicate or have access to your colleagues and other materials daily or specific duties that must be performed on site.
We all understand that.
But there are also a great number of jobs that can be done remotely - and for many of these workers they’ve proven that to be true for some time now.
The workforce of the future demands that we broaden our definition of workplace.
To not discuss it is to devalue the very people who keep the great golden state going.
There are better modern day uses for old state buildings - like student housing and classrooms. Sac State’s new Center for Democracy will bring far more life, investment and an infusion of energy to the urban core than commuters could ever hope to bring.
We can achieve multiple goals: grow and value our workforce, expand affordable housing opportunities, reduce commute times and improve air quality by taking cars off the streets, and reduce state overhead all with one discussion around the definition of “workplace”.
This shouldn’t be controversial. It’s a conversation about what is possible and how California can use our resources (human and fiscal) efficiently and effectively for years to come.

Very exciting to see the construction fences go up in the North Natomas Regional Park. Many years in the making - the next phase is coming - the great meadow!
Proud to help fund the project with gap dollars from the State. Happy to work with @CM_LisaKaplan and @TheCityofSac to see this next step through!
In communities like this one, where density is key, open spaces are critical. Parks create opportunities for families and friends to gather, read, study, picnic, talk, fly kites, play catch, blow bubbles and just be together - outside!
Most of the Regional Park is programmed space (baseball diamonds, playgrounds, dog parks) but the meadow is open space - a place to just be!
Coming soon… 🌳📚🪁☀️❤️

Proud to have Team Ashby show up at the Real Manhood Conference 101 at CSUS!
Young men from across Northern California came together for a day of mentorship, community, and real connection to educational resources. This is what it looks like when we invest in the next generation and show up for each other.
Big thanks to @dwighttaylorsr for bringing this vision to life and creating a space where brothas could get their minds and their lives right.

Team Ashby was Proud to join the community today for the grand opening of the new Elk Grove Library!
Senator Ashby was honored to help secure $1 million in gap funding to get this project across the finish line. Libraries are more than buildings. They're places to learn, connect, and grow, and Elk Grove families now have a beautiful new space to do all of that.
Thank you to everyone who made this day possible!

The ramblings of a man unfit for the office he holds. His comments have consequences. The notion of violence to the people of California isn’t funny - it’s demented.

Thank you to Clarissa Laguardia and her colleagues at the California Center for Civic Participation for inviting Senate Majority Leader Ashby out this morning to provide opening remarks for this year’s inaugural Capitol Backyard Party. #TeamAshby was inspired to see all of the participants from our local city offices and non-profits sharing resources to help raise awareness for youth advocacy.
We were excited to share some great news about funding assistance for Cal Center and goals for a Democracy Center in partnership with Sac State along Capitol Mall. We must make sure today’s youth has the tools to become tomorrow’s leaders.
