This image of kindred spirits representing the generosity of the Choctaw Tribe is truly a beautiful reminder of how to be in this world. @noiie_bc
This beautiful sculpture was built by the Irish people in their own country to honor the American Choctaw Indian tribe. They were grateful because in 1847 the Choctaw people sent money to Ireland when they learned that Irish people were starving due to the potato famine. The Choctaw themselves were living in hardship and poverty, having recently endured the Trail of Tears. And that is a lesson in how to be a person in this world.Kindred Spirits is a large stainless steel outdoor sculpture in Bailick Park in Midleton, County Cork, Ireland. The shape of the feathers is intended to represent a bowl of food. #native #nativeamerican #nativeamericanhistorymonth

The law only established a pilot program. It was slated to happen in an area with the garbage containerization process complete. Like rodenticides, the rat birth control pellets are not expected to work if rats have easy access to trash. Don’t know if the pilot program has actually started yet or if it’s going well. There are also non-rodenticide methods to exterminate rats that are more humane and have fewer or no downstream consequences, but it doesn’t seem these are used in the park. And almost none if not none of the buildings around the park use those safer methods either.

We were pleasantly surprised to see the mysterious Central Park barn owl again over the weekend after incorrectly assuming that it was the one that was rescued from an Upper West Side fire escape a couple months ago. Cont’d #birdcpp #nature #wildlife

I spotted a young Great Blue Heron fishing just after dawn at Central Park's Pool this week. I love how it looks suspended in mid-air in this shot. 🥰🥰🥰 #Heron #CentralPark #birdcpp

Happy International Owl Awareness Day! This is a previously unpublished photo of Flaco the owl from two years ago today. He is pictured on a favorite branch by Central Park’s Reservoir. The branch fell in a storm a while ago but the fond memories remain. Cont’d #birdcpp

A ghost owl hunting in Central Park late last night. Barn owls are rare in the park, but one has been sighted occasionally for several weeks now. This was my first sighting of the owl. What a pleasant surprise! 👻🦉 #birds #birdcpp
