You can also go to a public library and have a conversation with a librarian that might help you expand your taste and worldview instead of merely affirming it. They’ll even let you check out the books for free.
You can give ChatGPT a photo of an empty bookshelf and ask it to fill the shelves with real books based on what it knows about you. Kinda fun that image gen is so good now!

Weird that when a job is dominated by women there are no calls for equality in that field. In fact those women get very protective of it and actively try to keep men out.
"Today, the Big Five publishers are staffed almost entirely by women. According to the most recent data, more than 70 percent of staffers are women. More than 70 percent of editors are women. Even 70 percent of all interns are women. At the executive level, more than 60 percent of leaders are women. In 2026, American publishing looks like lululemon."

Anti-fraxers should at least try to argue consistently: either fractional reserve banking is a deceptive “pyramid of fraud,” in which case it should be illegal, or consenting adults should be allowed to engage in it as long as they bear all the risks.
This is a fine analysis, Craig, but you missed the point that fractional reserve banking is a pyramid of fraud. Banks MUST be allowed to fail. People who deposit money in risky banks MUST face losses. Governments should NEVER bail out banks. Murray Rothbard got it right.

The problem with “heterodox economics” is that when proven to be accurate it’s eventually just called “economics”

It’s amazing how often they tell on themselves.
Every economic theory, whether heterodox or orthodox, is a “political project.”

Marxism is essentially a religion nowadays as Marxist scholars do not ask whether what they write is true, but look to Marx as the source of all truth. That their beliefs are a valid interpretation of Marx is their only metric, and they admit this. It’s just theology.
I want to be very clear: Marxism and socialism are not, in fact, religions. Or, they shouldn’t be, and needn’t be, and often aren’t. But there is a kind of Gnostic socialist who insists that all bad things are essentially illusions performed by the Demiurge of Capital, and through correct investigation we can see through them and discern that there are no *real* problems and no *real* bad actors in the world apart from that Demiurge itself. All suffering and sin are a kind of spell that Capital casts, and if we could simply overthrow that Demiurge then we would immediately and permanently establish the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth. Anyway, the world is of course full of real problems and bad actors of many stripes, and socialism is a way to organize society around defeating those problems and bad actors, but it is not (and never has been) an instantaneous removal of all human sorrow.

One beach town going quite certainly _does_ change things when it was the only place on the planet where Bitcoin could be said to have once enjoyed something approaching general acceptance. But for Bitcoin true believers everything is always proceding according to plan. 1/

AI doesn't get enough credit for the fact that the advances it is making in medical technology will allow you to stay alive in your pod eating bugpaste and alternating between gambling on fake sports and watching fake porn until age 120. You'll only wish you were dead.

"Had Graeber’s purpose been, not to document economists’ ignorance of anthropology, but to show that at least one anthropologist doesn’t know the first thing about economics, I dare say that he could have done no better than to write Debt: The First 5000 Years." - George Selgin
No he doesn’t. All Graeber’s “debunking” of Adam Smith and Carl Menger (among others) proves is that he skipped or ignored important parts of Smith’s writings, and that he probably didn’t read Menger at all. See cato.org/blog/myth-myth-bart… and cato.org/blog/graeber-once-m…

Robert Kennedy just said the unvaccinated caused the covid pandemic. Looks like they got to him. My question is whenever these people get into a position to do good they suddenly flip faster than a pancake on a Sunday morning. What scares them that much.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
RFK Jr. did not say the unvaccinated caused the COVID pandemic; he attributed recent measles outbreaks to missed routine vaccinations (e.g. MMR) during the COVID pandemic. newsweek.com/staffers-stop-… thehill.com/policy/healthc… x.com/HQNewsNow/stat…

Ask an LLM about abortion. It'll fence sit performatively but implicitly adopt all rationalizations to dehumanize the unborn. Not surprising. It's trained on public discourse. But think how dangerous that is. We're teaching SI to do mental gymnastics to justify killing humans.
