As AI replaces more human work, there will be fewer traditional “workflows.”
Why?
Workflows exist largely to coordinate handoffs, decisions, and tasks between people and systems.
When AI can handle entire stretches of that process autonomously, many workflows collapse into a single objective:
Give AI the goal.
Let it handle the work.
Workflows are going to have fewer steps.
But each step will do far more.
AI will collapse chains of simple actions into a few highly capable, context-aware steps.
Less workflow complexity on the surface.
More intelligence inside each step.
IoT connected everything.
AI is teaching everything to think.
"The Internet of Things" is becoming the "AI of Things".
IoT → AIoT
Sensors won’t just collect data.
Devices won’t just follow commands.
They’ll interpret, decide, and act.
In the future, human employees will work with 1 of 3 groups:
- Humans
- AI agents
- Both
The real shift is #3.
The highest-leverage workers won’t just know how to work with people.
They’ll know how to delegate to, manage, and collaborate with AI agents too.
Energy → Compute → Intelligence → Automation → Abundance
The AI race ultimately starts upstream.
More energy means more compute.
More compute means more intelligence.
More intelligence means more automation.
More automation means more abundance.
The future runs on energy.
Humanoid robots don’t need muscle memory.
Humans need thousands of reps to make a physical skill automatic.
Robots can learn the skill once, turn it into software, then deploy it across the entire fleet.
Physical experience becomes copy/paste.
Humans are now the bottleneck.
AI can generate, analyze, build, test, and iterate faster than ever.
The bottleneck is shifting.
It’s no longer the technology.
It’s humans reviewing, approving, deciding, and keeping up.
AI agents don’t need 401(k)s, stock options, health insurance, PTO, promotions, or retirement plans.
That’s not just a productivity advantage.
It fundamentally changes the economics of “hiring.”
NEW for @Airtable: 15 updates covering automations, interfaces, editing & navigation, and a number of them retire the workarounds you probably built yourself.

Frictionless Editing
9. Bulk download attachments:
Download every file (or version) in an attachment cell in one click, instead of one at a time.
10. Arrow and Tab keys work in expanded cells again:
You can once more move between cells with the arrow and Tab keys while a cell is enlarged in Grid view — restoring fast data entry and review.
11. Tab and arrow keys advance in linked-record cells:
Create or search a linked record inline, and use Tab and arrow keys to move focus to the next field again — allowing you to link customer → product in one pass.
12. Full-screen formula editor:
Expand long formulas into a full-screen editing box instead of working within the 2-3 line field.
It works just like the full-screen prompt box in Field Agents.
Easier Navigation
13. Search shared interfaces by base name:
Search the Quick switcher for interfaces shared with you by their base name, even if you don’t have access to the base or workspace.
14. Find a page using its link:
Paste a page's link into search to jump straight to it. Handy when you're working across multiple accounts.
15. Multi-select when creating a token:
When you create a token in Builder Hub, the scope picker now stays open so you can select several scopes in one pass, instead of reopening per scope.
