When one of my children was 2, he dropped a carrot on the floor and refused to pick it up.
He was told he would not be allowed to do anything fun or have any privileges until he picked up the carrot.
He refused for hours. He cried and screamed. He even napped, woke up, and continued to refuse. His commitment was impressive.
We held fast. Until he picked up the carrot, he would receive nothing other than water and basic food to live.
After over 4 hours, he picked up the carrot and apologized. It's the longest he's fought us to this day.
Disobedience is a choice of parents. You get the behavior that you tolerate.

Ingen uppgift är lika viktig för den här regeringen som landets säkerhet och medborgarnas trygghet. Det innebär att våld mot kvinnor ska bekämpas med precis samma kraft och beslutsamhet som vi bekämpar den organiserade brottsligheten med.
Konsekvent har vi ändrat lagar och regler för att bättre skydda kvinnor från förövare sedan vi bildade regering.
I vår inför vi ett nytt straff som gör att pedofiler, serievåldtäktsmän och män som mördar kvinnor kan låsas in och aldrig mer släppas ut. Detta är ett paradigmskifte, som borde gjorts för länge sedan.
Förslaget har hittills motarbetats hårt rent politiskt, men nu genomför vi det i alla fall.
Många regeringar före oss har pratat om vikten av att stoppa mäns våld mot kvinnor.
Trots det har sekretesshindren varit för stora och för många, straffen för låga och verktygen för att skydda samhället från de allra farligaste vålds- och sexualbrottslingarna för svaga.
Vi gör nu det som borde ha gjorts för länge sedan: ett genomgripande och helt nödvändigt perspektivskifte från gärningsman till brottsoffer och samhällsskydd.
Laglydiga människors rätt till trygghet ska gå före farliga individers rätt att röra sig fritt.
Nu tar vi nästa steg genom en nollvision och att inrätta ett särskilt ministerråd mot mäns våld mot kvinnor. Varje kvinna som dör till följd av våldet från en man – vare sig de har eller har haft en relation eller inte – är ett enormt misslyckande. En nollvision som följs upp med konkret handling är nödvändig.
Jag kommer därför personligen att leda ministerrådet, med det redan existerande rådet mot organiserad brottslighet som modell. Utöver relevanta myndigheter kommer justitieministern, jämställdhetsministern, socialministern med ansvar för psykiatri och socialtjänstministern finnas bland medlemmarna i rådet.
Rättsväsendet, socialtjänsten och sjukvården – inte minst psykiatrin – kommer att behöva samverka för att detta inte ska hända igen.
Vi har nu ett stort ansvar mot de kvinnor som inte längre kan föra sin egen talan, och vars liv togs ifrån dem. Låt oss hedra deras minne genom att göra allt som står i vår makt för att det som inte får hända inte ska kunna hända igen.
