I watched BC Conservatives campaign and I really think Republicans have a lot to learn from them. If our GOP in blue states operated like them, we could make real progress. Their campaign was excellent from the tone, leadership, and issues. Their ads and slogans were so smooth too like this one. The key one for the snap election was “[David Eby] saw an opportunity for himself. I see an opportunity for you.” Very soft, gentle while tapping onto desires for change. Lorne even had a whole video criticizing how the snap election was close to their municipals confusing voters which hurts local representation and those campaigning for it. So detailed man. Solely focused on what affects constituents, nothing federal or international. Many blue state Rs rightly see the mess in California and New York so they react in anger. There was a fentanyl crisis in BC too yet they kept their cool to win. Don’t be reactionary and just stick to the issues. I really, REALLY think we should look into BC and adopt similar types of politicians, messaging, and attitude. It’s our best hope to ever win. It’s why I discuss them at length.
I see some giving Lorne flack for being so gracious while Lowan wasn’t but this is literally how he won. Canadians clearly love the Carney centrist, professional vibes. He embodies that too. Greens had a horrible night so Lowan is crashing out big time. They were supposed to gain seats and this was their best chance due to how much Eby screwed up. Looking classy focused on local issues over this loud talk makes BCCP shine and further entrenched as a governing force. Just like the right wing being all “chud” is toxic, the left crashing out being all woke and noisy is horrible for their image. Let them keep doing this. It’s good for the Greens to keep being aggressive which can continue its toxicity on the NDP. Keep the two fighting. BC never elected Conservatives in 100 years. It’s far left territory so they feel entitled. Lorne needs to build on his success which comes from the smooth, “clean” messaging to start changing that.
Only Conservatives won this election and I hope Lorne is allowed to stay as Premier. Changing him is too much of a headache and he’s good enough as a Northern Conservative.
