Trump and MAGA spent years targeting Somali Americans with some of the ugliest racism, Islamophobia, and xenophobia imaginable. They were vilified, told to “go back” to where they came from, and portrayed as threats to the very country they call home. And how did America respond? By electing and re-electing Somali Americans to public office. By reminding us that the children of refugees and immigrants are not outsiders. They are part of the American story. These victories are more than electoral successes. They are a powerful testament to the resilience of a community that refused to be intimidated, silenced, or excluded. You can question their belonging. You can attack their identity. But you cannot extinguish their determination to participate, serve, and lead. Congratulations to all those elected and re-elected!
