Since joining the Durable Task team, I’ve noticed something interesting.
A lot of people stay away from some of the really good stuff because Durable orchestration feels a bit like magic.
And when something feels like magic, it’s hard to trust it.
So I wanted to peel back one small part of that magic and show what actually happens when an orchestration hits await?
The answer is not simply “the function pauses and continues later.”
I wrote a deep dive into replay, activity completion, IsReplaying, and what Durable Task actually persists under the hood.

Additionally, we've refactored the SDK to re-use the DF SDK for C# isolated, which makes it a lot easier to expose new DF features to PS customers. I'm personally very excited about this one, as the benefit code-sharing is a big win when you're maintaining several SDKs ⚡️

By de-coupling the SDK from the PowerShell worker, we've been able to finally deliver on some major features and bug fixes that required breaking changes🙌
These include things like exception-handling in orchestrators, handling null results in WhenAll/WhenAny patterns, etc

This release is special in several ways. Previous releases of the SDK came built-in to the Azure Functions PS worker. This had its benefits, but it also limited our release cadence, which made shipping new features and hotfixes challenging at times.

Just released a new major version of the Durable Functions SDK for PowerShell! This release supports sub-orchestrators, more reliable replay, and it has been published as an independent package in the PS Gallery. 🥳
