This was the UConn bench whenever Azzi took a shot๐Ÿฅน Tomorrow, sheโ€™ll be honored as a Husky of Honor, but perhaps her greatest legacy is the love and admiration sheโ€™s earned from those who shared the journey with her ๐Ÿฉท๐Ÿ‘‘

Well, from now on, weโ€™ll see who was here for their relationship and who was here for the incredible basketball players theyโ€™ve always been.

What we should take away from all this is that, despite being apart for a year, their on-court chemistry hasnโ€™t changed. Their relationship was always separate from their game. Theyโ€™re still a great duo, they still complement each other, and thatโ€™s what truly matters.

Itโ€™s time to distinguish between those who followed them because they were a couple and those of us who follow them because of the incredible players they are. 535 is bigger than a relationship. The duo lives on.

The skill set Azzi brought to UConnโ€™s game has become even more evident in her absence. Geno needed to recruit a shooter, but he overlooked the spacing, defensive impact, and off-ball movement Azzi provided. Thatโ€™s an incredibly difficult combination to find in a single player.

The fact that KK and Ash are heading into their senior year with so many holes in their game is honestly unbelievable. That lack of development maybe wasnโ€™t as noticeable when they shared the court with Paige and Azzi, but now itโ€™s becoming much more exposed.

people hate supportive parent relationships ๐Ÿ˜ญ is this an American thing? ppl act like once someone turns 21 they shouldnโ€™t have their parents around or be taken care of by them as someone who grew up in latam this is so normal and healthy to me

I have no doubt Azzi will be a DPOY contender in the coming years. If these are her numbers as a rookie, just imagine how much better her stats will be in the years to come. Defense is a game of instincts, and Azzi has them
Azzi Fudd averaged 2.6 steals + blocks per game. Thatโ€™s the most by a shooting guard who didnโ€™t make an All-Defensive Team in WNBA history.

"There were only three players this season who averaged at least 2.5 stocks per game and no more than 2.5 fouls per game: Aโ€™ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart, and Azzi Fudd. That feat has only been accomplished four times (including Fuddโ€™s season) by guards in the last decade"
I agonized over this and one of my picks might be out of left field ๐Ÿซฃ I voted for... First Team: Angel Reese, Gabby Williams, A'ja Wilson, Shakira Austin, Breanna Stewart Second Team: Rhyne Howard, Veronica Burton, Kiah Stokes, Aliyah Boston, Azzi Fudd Eight players (Reese, Williams, Wilson, Austin, Stewart, Howard, Burton and Stokes) seemed like obvious picks. I spent a lot of time going over Boston, Fudd, Kayla McBride, Sonia Citron, Jordin Canada, and Natasha Howard for the last two second team spots. It's a fair critique to say that I should've chosen McBride and/or Citron instead. I tried to watch as many defensive possessions for each player as possible and used the same criteria that I applied for Defensive Player of the Year. I prioritized a) how much they made life miserable for their opponents, b) how much defensive responsibility they were trusted with, c) versatility and d) individual contribution independent from team context. Fudd, Citron and McBride all took on difficult matchups. All three made life difficult for offenses. McBride hounded her opponents. Citron and Fudd were sticky perimeter defenders. I came in with a strong prior belief in Fudd's defensive ability, and the film did little to change that. I appreciated her on-ball defense and her ability to recover and intercept passes in pick-and-roll situations. She's also adept at swiping at the ball as opponents drive and rise for shots. I went with Fudd in part because of those factors. I don't always love steals + blocks as a combined defensive measure because they quantify different things, but I do think one stat is illustrative of the event-based impact Fudd had. There were only three players this season who averaged at least 2.5 stocks (steals plus blocks) per game and no more than 2.5 fouls per game. The names? Aโ€™ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart, and Azzi Fudd. That feat has only been accomplished four times (including Fuddโ€™s season) by guards in the last decade. It's fair to argue that I should've been harsher on Fudd's missed time. It's also fair to say that Citron was the more consistent defender, or that she, McBride or Canada deserved my vote instead. (I voted McBride for All-WNBA Second Team because of her two-way impact.) I had the least confidence in this selection because there were so many worthy candidates; I tried to ingest as much evidence as I could during the voting period and my vote swayed throughout the process. For Boston vs. Natasha Howard, I ultimately split hairs and gave Boston a slight edge for her rim protection and for providing that level of rim protection without committing shooting fouls as often as Howard did.

I love Sonia, but letโ€™s be honest: she wasnโ€™t more impactful defensively than Azzi. The numbers speak for themselves

Remember what Kelis said on draft night? Geno needed to find a three-point shooter like Azzi. Well, it seems he hasnโ€™t found one yet because the Huskies are struggling BADLY from beyond the arc. ๐Ÿ˜ญ The irreplaceable princess. ๐Ÿ‘‘

What would it feel like to have a franchise like the Valkyries, one with a serious championship vision that understands defense wins championships? ๐Ÿ˜ญ But anyway, GO WINGS! ๐Ÿชฝ

Four former Wings players are in the Finals, making an impact for their teams. Dallas keeps wasting talent by clinging to an individualistic system instead of maximizing its playersโ€™ potential. The franchiseโ€™s decisions speak for themselves. ๐Ÿ’€

Natalie Nakase not winning COTY is a disgrace In the franchiseโ€™s first year, she led them to the playoffs. In their second, they became the best defensive team in the league and made it to the Finals. The Lynxโ€™s media hype robbed her of that award. She deserved so much better. ๐Ÿ˜’

I donโ€™t know what kind of witchcraft Arike pulled on Dallasโ€™ front office. ๐Ÿ˜ญ Her best FG% in 8 years was 41.2% in 2020. Dallas has Paige and Azzi right in front of them, yet they keep prioritizing inconsistency and forced shots over their young core. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE.

Why does Curt think Paige doesnโ€™t care about individual awards? Come on, sheโ€™s 100% competitive. She wants to win EVERYTHING. ๐Ÿ˜ญ Being humble doesnโ€™t mean you donโ€™t want recognition. You can put the team first and still want to be recognized๐Ÿ’œ
