Ahead of Full Council, I explain why the decision to increase councillors’ allowances matters for everyone we represent.

I see the nonsense “rent controls are back” takes keep coming.
There is no rent control in England.
The legal right to challenge rent increases at tribunal was introduced by the Thatcher Government in its 1988 Housing Act.
It was rarely used in practice only because it inevitably resulted in a landlord serving a Section 21 notice.
Labour’s Renters’ Rights Act abolished Section 21 ‘no fault’ evictions and renters are now rightly empowered to challenge unfair or above-market rent increases.
In both the recent cases that have been the cause of so much debate, the tribunal has been operating exactly as it should – determining that the landlords in question were charging rents that simply did not reflect local market values for comparable properties.

Building London's next great riverside neighbourhood starts now.
Today, @MrOkereke signed off the next phase of work at Charlton Riverside. 8,000 new homes. 1,000 jobs. All of it geared towards growth.
Because standing still isn't an option in a housing crisis.

Devolution is growing out!
The government is now in the final stages of agreeing 10 new devolution agreements:
Mayoral Strategic Authorities for Devon, Plymouth and Torbay; Hertfordshire; Lancashire; Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland; Stoke and Staffordshire; Surrey; Thames Valley (Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Swindon); and Wessex.
A Strategic Authority for Kent and Medway which will be Mayoral if the area’s Local Government Reorganisation outcome is compatible with this and Foundation if not.
This adds to Cheshire and Warrington; Cumbria; Sussex and Brighton; Hampshire and Solent; Essex and Norfolk and Suffolk.
And a single Foundation Strategic Authority for Cornwall.
Well done to all the local leaders and MPs, businesses and partners who have made the case and done the hard work on the ground!

On Tuesday, Landsec shelved its £1.5bn plan for Lewisham Shopping Centre.
Today, Goldsmiths has walked away from its planned Catford campus: 600+ students, a 10-year lease, millions of council investment.
The Green Mayor @LiamShrivastava promised hope. Where is it for Catford?

In recent days, we’ve seen investment and homes being blocked by short-sighted populism in London.
We will never let that mindset takeover Greenwich.

HMO action ➡️ Signed, sealed, delivered. ✅
Greenwich Labour is getting things done. 🌹
Bren Albiston retweeted
From today, the HMO measures in our new Local Plan will be taken into account in planning decisions:
🏠 No new HMOs under 130sqm
🏠 No new HMOs where 3 of the nearest 10 homes are HMOs
Good shared housing matters, but so do family homes. This helps get the balance right.
