A stunning evening of music, congrats Ryan Wang and the finalists @BBCYoungMus 👏and always great to see @JessGillamSax!
None of the finalists this year are from London, they just happen to be living there now. In 2022, only one finalist was from London. In 2020, no finalists were from London. In 2016, no finalists were from London…. I could go on? (Missing out 2018 cause I can’t remember 🤪)

Today's the day - the final of BBC Young Musician Award 2024.
It's been a joy and privilege to follow the journeys of these incredible young musicians and to have been involved in the process with them.
Watch the final from on @BBCTwo, @BBCRadio3, and @BBCiPlayer from 1830.
The competition happens every two years, so “of the year” isn’t accurate. BBC Young Musician of the Biannual Year isn’t quite so catchy?!

The wonderful thing about @BBCYoungMus is the supreme talent on display but also the empathy and kindness shown by @JessGillamSax . I couldn't judge then so I get to immerse in wonderful music making.
