🌿 Ethical Tourism Practices at a Streak-throated Swallow Congregation Site. As part of the GSDP Certificate Course in “Nature Conservator Cum Ecotourism Guide”, organised by the EIACP RP on Avian Ecology at the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), an educational field visit focusing on Ethical Tourism Practices was conducted on 3 October 2026 at a Streak-throated Swallow congregation site along the Godavari River, Nashik, Maharashtra. During the approximately 2-km nature trail, participants observed congregations of Streak-throated Swallows and documented various plant and insect species, gaining practical insights into the riverine ecosystem and the importance of suitable habitats for birds. A key focus of the field visit was understanding the distinctive nesting behaviour of the Streak-throated Swallow, particularly its characteristic pot-shaped mud nests, typically constructed on cliff faces, rocky overhangs, bridges, culverts and other suitable vertical structures. Mr. Nandkishor Dudhe guided the participants throughout the trail, explaining the ecological significance of the swallow congregation and its nesting habitat. He also demonstrated how ecotourism guides can effectively interpret bird behaviour while ensuring minimal disturbance to wildlife. Participants were introduced to essential principles of ethical birdwatching and responsible tourism, including maintaining a safe distance from birds and nests, avoiding loud noises and sudden movements, refraining from touching or approaching nests, preventing littering, and ensuring that visitors do not obstruct bird flight paths. The field experience highlighted the important role of an ecotourism guide in creating meaningful wildlife experiences while safeguarding sensitive habitats and maintaining ecological integrity. It reinforced the message that responsible tourism can foster wildlife appreciation and environmental awareness while contributing to conservation. #BNHS #EIACP #GSDP #Ecotourism #EthicalTourism [ResponsibleTourism Birdwatching StreakThroatedSwallow BirdConservation WildlifeConservation NatureConservation Nashik GodavariRiver]
