Many of my constituents have contacted me asking me to support pro-choice reform to abortion law. I support the need for change. This powerful article sets out why we need itšŸ‘‡šŸ‘‡
It is dystopian that women are facing criminal investigations for seeking medical care at the most desperate moments of their lives. This has got to end. That’s why I tabled NC1 - it’s time for Parliament to support this changešŸ‘‡ @BPAS1968 stylist.co.uk/news/politics/…

The treatment Nicola Packer was subjected to was abhorrent. Now we learn a senior officer raised concerns at the time. No woman should be criminalised for seeking medical help in the most desperate of circumstances. Email your MP to support my NC1 @BPAS1968

In 2020, Nicola Packer had an abortion - then was arrested and put on trial. Now, found not guilty, she hopes she will be the last woman in history prosecuted under England’s archaic law. Read @phoebe_ivy's report here: bit.ly/3HezMYL

This cannot be allowed to happen ever again to any woman. As @BPAS1968 say: "Members of Parliament have a moral duty to decriminalise abortion & end the threat of police, prosecutions, & imprisonment once & for all". bbc.com/news/articles/c93y5g…

I visited a BPAS (British Pregnancy Advisory Service) clinic for the second time, and compared to my first visit, this experience felt noticeably more positive. The changes I observed at the clinic reflect the progress in the fight for women’s reproductive rights, even amidst the global challenges. BPAS, the UK’s leading provider of NHS-funded abortion care, has spent over 50 years advocating for women’s right to make decisions about their own bodies. Their main goal is to ensure that women accessing their services feel safe, supported, and respected. BPAS is more than a healthcare provider; they also campaign tirelessly for progressive change, advocating the removal of women from the criminal law on abortion, establishing safe access zones and modernising the UK’s abortion laws. During my visit to the clinic, it was reaffirmed to me that access to this type of care is not just a healthcare issue—it is a matter of human rights.

It’s an absolute scandal that only one doctor in the whole of šŸ“󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁓ó æ is trained in providing surgical abortion care up to the legal limit. This means women seeking abortion >20wks either have to travel to šŸ“󠁧󠁢󠁄󠁮󠁧ó æ or spend days in hospital miscarrying. Disgrace. heraldscotland.com/news/2469…
