A lot of exceptionally talented folks from the Polaris team are no longer at Shopify today. These people have levelled up crafters, orgs and platforms through our Design System.

Today was my last day at Shopify after four years working on Polaris — going to take a moment and then jump into exploring what's next. So many incredibly thoughtful, talented folks were impacted today, if you're looking or need to fill an open role we've started a resource here

As a software developer, you may be called upon to perform some of these tasks in your career.
How well a CS degree prepares you for these tasks (and whether it even should prepare you for these) is left as an exercise to the reader.

I learned this lesson the hard way, as a CEO.
At best, you should only assume good intent down a power hierarchy (i.e., assume the best of your employees, or those of a less privileged class), but not up (e.g., bosses, those in social or political power)

To be able to “assume good intent” is an extraordinarily privileged thing to be able to do.
If you’re never subjected to microaggressions, for example, that’s easy to do.
If you often are, assuming good intent could amount to gaslighting yourself.
It’s naive, bad advice.

This is a thread about how utterly in love with Penelope Scott's song Rät I am. It's a breakup song to Silicon Valley and Elon Musk in particular. It is 🔥🔥🔥 on the promise, failure, and disappointment of technology. Some of my favorite lyrics: youtu.be/LpxT9TLGoLI
