Data from @AspenInstSports. The big red flag for me on this list is the lack of "coaching pedagogy" training. There is training to avoid injuries or litigation, training to make sure athletes are good at the sport, but there's no training on how to coach.
Interesting data from @AspenInstSports on the participation numbers of youth sports. Some of this data could be misleading, but there are some clear trends.
Middle and High School Coaches Needed for Research Study
Are you currently a middle or high school coach, or have you served in that role within the past three years? Want to win up to $1,000?
We are seeking coaches to help develop the Baseline Readiness Inventory for Interscholastic Coaches (BRIIC). The BRIIT is being designed to help athletic directors identify the strengths and professional development needs of newly hired school coaches.
You will complete a 10- to 15-minute online survey evaluating the importance and relevance of potential coaching competencies, responsibilities, and readiness indicators. No name, email address, or other direct identifier is requested in the primary research survey.
As a thank-you for participating, you will have the opportunity to enter a separate random drawing to win one of five gift cards: 1 winner will receive $1,000, 2 will receive $500, and 2 will receive $250.
Complete the survey here:

100%. Our research on coach stress and burnout found that while some stressors were similar between male and female coaches, there were differences. The below helps to explain why.

New research co-authored by @Baghurst (in press, The Sport Psychologist): over 18 months in a UK high-performance gym, coaches sometimes delayed or softened difficult feedback. My take: athletes can handle the truth. Say it clearly, say it kindly, say it on time. #gymnastics

Amazing what can be accomplished by people on the same mission. Thanks for organizing and creating action steps. #onecourse #onecertificate
Something special happened at FSU today. Representatives from the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE), Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA), Florida Coaches Coalition (FCC), Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA), and the Florida Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (FIAAA) all came together to discuss coaches' certification and training in Florida schools. We discussed the current challenges coaches face and, in conjunction with the Coaches' Tool Chest, proposed ways to improve coaching standards and training and to simplify the process for coaches and athletic directors. Much work is needed, but it starts with an agreement and understanding that change is necessary.
I'm excited to announce a new publication: "Should I Say It?": Navigating the Complex Dilemmas of Honesty in High-Performance Gymnastics Coaching.
We found that coaches in our study sometimes delayed or softened difficult feedback because they were concerned about damaging athletes’ confidence and motivation.
Our new article in The Sport Psychologist explores these dilemmas through an 18-month qualitative study at one UK high-performance gymnastics center. We combined interviews, observations, and video analysis, drawing on perspectives from six coaches, 12 athletes, and seven parents.
Honest communication involved continual judgments about what to share, when, and how. Athletes’ developmental stage, performance expectations, and relationships with parents shaped those decisions.
For coaches, coach educators, sport psychologists, and researchers studying athlete welfare, the findings highlight the emotional and ethical work behind everyday communication. We recommend opportunities for coaches to rehearse difficult conversations about selection, injury, athlete readiness, and parental expectations.

Fired for running up the score ...
🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨
Sources close to the Marist Catholic Football program have confirmed that Zach Loboy has been relieved of his duties as Head Football Coach.
It is believed that the reason Loboy was let go was due to Marist Catholic running up the score to 64-0 in the first half versus Cottage Grove, going against the school’s code of conduct.
Surprising news out of Eugene, Jake Lowther is set to finish the season as Interim Head Coach.

The Relationship Between Athletic Trainer and Coach xitter.cf/i/broadcasts/1PKqrNmmD…
A hurricane disrupted our plans for this year's coaches' clinic, but we were still able to pivot and complete the presentations online. We also broke registration records, with nearly 250 participants this year! My thanks to @Coach_Alameda @mcgriff_tyrone, Elizabeth Greg, @wilking_j, @AndrewRamjit, and @SirDowdy for sharing their expertise.
