Happening now: The Benjamin Banneker staff is eating and preparing the scene for our community on Back to School Night.
Welcome families!!!
With teary eyes & a heart full of pride, I watched Benjamin Banneker students participate as cadets in a moving Remembrance of 9/11.
For the ups & down, I love this country 🇺🇸 & today I am a proud member of the Burtonsville community remembering.
The first day of school at Benjamin Banneker MS was quite amazing with over 40 community members clapping in our students and 1 superintendent joining in! 💙🧡

It looks like I’m not the only one doing last-minute Back to School shopping! I ran into two of our 8th grade Bobcats running errands this afternoon.
I’m excited about this week and YEAR ahead! 📚

Every student’s name is UP!
Over the summer we:
- beautified the front,
- met over ice cream,
- cooked out (or IN due to rain) 🌧️
& finally Benjamin Banneker Admin will be at the Region 2 Back to School Celebration.
It’s time! We are Becoming Banneker…

We’re back Banneker! 🧡 Kicked off the year w/ breakfast & a powerful charge: setting the conditions for excellence & exploring Effortful Thinking as a tool for equity.
Trust us, great things are happening as we’re #BecomingBanneker: Rooted In Legacy. Growing Through Excellence.
Over 150 of our community members joined us on a summer afternoon for fellowship, games AND Kona Ice at the Benjamin Banneker MS Community Meet & Greet.
Oh yes, The Banneker Legacy is Activated! 🧡💙
The countdown is ON! Enjoy the rest of the long summer days and we will see you in school in just a month. 🔔
In just one month, classrooms will be filled, hallways will be filled with smiles and excitement, and MCPS students and staff will be back together for another year.
Stay tuned for important back-to-school updates as we get ready for Aug. 25: ow.ly/YMVp50Zs4qx

What’s happening?
Members of the NJHS at Benjamin Banneker MS met their principal for a small beautification project.
Their overall sentiment was, they didn’t know how deep those roots ran & this work was harder than they expected! Cheers to a morning of hard work. 🪴
Part 1 of Leadership Week at Benjamin Banneker MS is in the books!
There were engaging discussions & we made impactful decisions. We closed the week with a community building @WhiteOakDuckPins
Now we rest up for round 2 in August!

So fun to see Senator Van Hollen's staff assistant and EMS almuni Faina Pensy reconnect with teacher Dr. Warren Scheib who was also her teacher adviser when she won 3rd prize in the @StudentCam competition!
Go Eagles!!🦅
