🌿 The Duke also heard how the @BartsGuild Princess Alice garden is still open to patients, offering a calming, tranquil outside space within the hospital grounds. Social distancing measures have been introduced, to allow the garden to stay open for patients.

The Duke expressed his gratitude to Mandy, Jilly and Valeria - and thousands others like them - who continue to give up their time to support the NHS, making the hospital experience that little bit better for patients and families.

The Duke of Gloucester spoke to @BartsGuild volunteers yesterday, who are running @BartsHospital’s much-loved support services, from the onsite hospital shop to the roving trolley service that visits the wards, as well as helping the triage team. HRH is Patron of @BartsGuild.

The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester then met the hospital’s staff and volunteers. St Bart’s Hospital in East London is a regional and national centre for cardiac and cancer care.

Meet “The da Vinci”: The Duke and Duchess were shown a medical robot which helps surgeons perform minimally invasive surgery with an advanced set of instruments. 📹 The Duke performed a practiced operation on a pepper with help from Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Sasha Stamenkovic.

St Bartholomew’s is the oldest hospital in Britain, providing health care for residents of London since 1123.

The Duke has provided support to the hospital’s charity as Patron of the Guild of The Royal Hospital of St Bartholomew, since 2006. 👋🏥 The Duke and Duchess were welcomed by staff from the hospital and given a tour of the King George V building.

🌸 The Princess Alice Garden was opened in 2001 to mark the 100th birthday of Princess Alice, The Duke of Gloucester’s late mother. Today, The Duke & Duchess were given a tour of the garden to celebrate its redesign. New shrubs and plants have refreshed the look of the garden.

Today, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester are visiting St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London to reopen The Princess Alice Garden. The garden sits within the walls of St Bart’s Hospital and has provided a quiet, green space for residents and visitors since 1962 🌿🍃
