People are incredible. And I mean that in a Latin sense.

Shit shit. Guys, I can't find my soundcloud! (no idea why this broke containment... Twitter usually keeps me to a steady 33 impressions)
Since nobody seems to know what analytics means anymore, here's one of my favorite lessons. Take two hitters with the same OPS. Hold OBP equal too. The one with the lower batting average is the better hitter. .250/.350/.450 .300/.350/.450

.@grok A projection is a statistically vigorous thought exercise. This is Jim Bowden making shit up again--as he always does.

Why? The .250 hitter has more extra base hits, outcomes which produce far more runs than the marginal singles hit by the higher-AVG guy. They both reach base at the same rate.

For those battling it out in the comments, 5 walks = 4 singles.

Specifically, it's a month's worth of piss water. They like piss water. They really do.
Report from Ferg’s that will make Brewers fans laugh: The owner tells me that yesterday, they went through 1,000 cases of Miller and Coors Light, which is a MONTH’S worth of beer!! A month of beer in one day. If you were wondering if they like beer in Wisconsin, they do! 😅

Why'd that take so long?
The Charlotte Hornets on Feb. 11 are retiring the No. 1 jersey of Muggsy Bogues, the shortest player in NBA history at 5-foot-3. Bogues spent 10 of his 14 NBA seasons in Charlotte (1988-1998) and is the franchise leader in assists, steals and minutes.

Can you imagine outing yourself as a data-illiterate data guy?

lol, what a troll job. This World Series does seem to shine a light on a gap between two teams that do it the same way, one that's loaded on talent top-to-bottom while the other just has dudes who play their role.

That's a swing though... so fix the system.
The Yandy Diaz strikeout to end Game 2 would not have been close to a swing under the review system they've been testing in the minor leagues (via @tangotiger)

Don't love the wild walk rate as he's always flirted with passivity. That said, I think the play for the org is to get him on the MLB roster ASAP. We'll see if the new CBA changes the calculus at all.
Aidan Miller was 1 for 1 with this double hit at 106.4 mph Saturday in the Arizona Fall League. Miller also walked three times, scored two runs and stole a base. In 9 AFL games, he's 9 for 25 with 18 walks. He's slashing 360/636/560.

The Phillies are in a tough spot. The usual script would be to put a 1-3 WAR guy in front of Miller to set a floor and give somebody for Miller to outperform. But that's going to cost cash, and they don't have a ton to work with. Nor can they use prospects to replace cash.

The particulars of this idea don't work (and mega-LUL at smallest-market Brewers in NL East), but they could align AL/NL based on market size with a pseudo-relegation framework tacked on (or not).
If MLB and MLBPA do not agree on a Salary Cap and Floor this offseason, they need to realign the Conferences and Divisions: Here is my new NL and AL based on fairness if a cap/floor isn't put in place: NL Central: - Pittsburgh Pirates - Cincinnati Reds - Washington Nationals - Cleveland Guardians - Miami Marlins NL East: - Detroit Tigers - Milwaukee Brewers - New York Mets - Philadelphia Phillies - Atlanta Braves NL West: - Los Ángeles Dodgers - San Diego Padres - Arizona Diamondbacks - Los Ángeles Angels - San Francisco Giants AL East: - Toronto Blue Jays - Boston Red Sox - Chicago Cubs - New York Yankees - Baltimore Orioles AL Central: - Kansas City Royals - St. Louis Cardinals - Tampa Bay Rays - Colorado Rockies - Chicago White Sox AL West: - Texas Rangers - Seattle Mariners - Athletics - Houston Astros - Minnesota Twins

Feels like Ken Rosenthal's on a one-man crusade to see Bryce Harper traded. Nobody else is on that wagon. I'm pretty sure his pattern recognition software has gone haywire.

Command is such a mind fucker. As someone who has had 20 and 70 grade command at different points of my "career," I don't feel like I have any answers. When it's easy, it's just easy. It's not mechanical. I glance at the spot, not even really trying, and the ball goes there.
Your command isn’t as bad as you think 🎯 Not only is it trainable in the long run, but there are probably strategy tweaks you could make right now that would show up on field immediately. Great new blog from @Travis_Sawchik in the qt below ⬇️

I'm a 50 now. I was a 20/30 in HS and college. I had a mens league peak when I could just dot whatever I wanted from multiple arm angles (albeit probably high-60s velo). I'm throwing mid-70s now, maybe more, with less command but greater effect.

I was taught to use low, glove-side four-seamers all my life, which, as we've learned, is actually pretty dumb. I now mostly throw high cutters, and I focus on what things look like out of my hand rather than where it's going. That's partly why my command has dropped again.
