Average players goof around until it's their turn at practice.
Better players watch whoever goes before them.
Good players notice what the player did right or wrong.
Great players LEARN when the coach corrects someone else... so they don't waste a rep making the same mistake.

The Complaining Tax.
Every player pays it.
Most don’t even realize it.
A strike doesn’t go your way.
You throw your hands up.
An error gets scored a hit.
You stare at the umpire.
Coach takes you out.
You spend the next three innings proving why it wasn’t your fault.
You think you’re protecting yourself.
You’re actually paying a tax.
Every complaint costs you something.
It costs trust.
It costs credibility.
It costs leadership.
It costs your teammates’ respect.
It costs your coach’s confidence.
And eventually
It costs opportunities.
Here’s what most players never understand.
The complaint isn’t the problem.
The habit is.
Because every time something goes wrong, your brain asks one question
“Who can I blame?”
Elite players ask a different question.
“What can I own?”
That’s why they improve faster.
The game isn’t looking for perfect players.
It’s looking for players who adjust.
Coaches don’t expect you to never fail.
They expect you to respond like someone worth coaching.
Body language gets evaluated.
Excuses get remembered.
Accountability gets rewarded.
The player who complains after every bad call eventually becomes background noise.
The player who owns everything becomes the player everyone trusts in the 7th inning.
You don’t eliminate mistakes by avoiding responsibility.
You eliminate mistakes by taking responsibility.
Stop paying the Complaining Tax.
Invest that energy into adjustments instead.
The return is a lot better.
Excuses are expensive.
Accountability pays dividends.

I've played professional baseball.
I've coached collegiate baseball.
I've evaluated thousands of high school players over the last 12 years.
Here are a few baseball truths I've learned:
• Failure is inevitable. How you respond to it is a choice.
• The game rewards resilience far more than talent gives it credit for.
• Body language is visibly LOUD.
• You never know who's watching.
• Talent gets you noticed. Consistency gets you recruited.
• Nobody cares how good you were last week.
• The players who blame others rarely improve.
• Confidence comes from preparation, not motivation.
• The game owes you nothing.
• Coaches trust competitors before they trust tools.
• Your teammates know if you're real.
• Baseball has a funny way of exposing excuses.
• The best players are usually obsessed with improvement, not attention.
• Nobody remembers your excuses. They remember your actions.
Build your floor. Chase your ceiling. ⚾️
