There are so many ways to contribute to climate action. I was lucky enough to have a chance to share the story of how I moved from prosecuting international crimes and litigating human rights abuses, to building cases that advance climate action, with @AkshatRathi's Zero Podcast.

Brand new research from Uplift confirms the minimal role oil & gas companies are playing in driving forward the UK's energy transition.

BREAKING: we've received permission from the Court of Session to proceed to a full hearing on ALL of the grounds of our legal challenge against the Rosebank oil field.
This is a major step towards stopping this disastrous project. Here's why:

This could be the court putting down a marker on the limits of what to expect in the broader cases…?
Replying to @cohelongo
She confirms that these cases raised unprecedented issues. In the KlimaSeniorinnen case, the Court dedicated attention to the general phenonmenon of climate litigation, empahsizing that it can only deal with such cases within the limits of its competence under Article 19 ECHR.

There will be a lot to watch when the #ECHR issues its 3 climate change judgments on Tuesday. A key qn is how it sees the relevance of the #ParisAgreement for states’ obligations under other bodies of international law in the context of #climatechange.

- Or must institutions outside the UNFCCC look independently at the science and interpret their own relevant substantive law without being unduly limited or influenced by the political compromises made in the negotiation of the Paris Agreement?

A quantified look at the outcomes from #COP28 from @BloombergNEF gives the UAE Consensus almost the same marks as the Sharm El Sheikh Implementation Pact at #COP27 and much lower than the Glasgow Pact of #COP26.

“No Man’s Forest” is a new special report by @O_Eco, supported by CCCA, @InfoAmazoniaBR and @Imazon. It addresses the lack of land regulation in the Amazon, and how that affects deforestation. This is an essential topic for Brazil and for the climate.

If anyone doubted that we are living in the #anthropocene, now we have evidence that humans are literally impacting the way the earth rotates on its axis.

Insurers analyze the true nature of risk more dispassionately than most of us. This is not just “money talks” - the money here is shouting “emergency” while it runs for the door.
Great work by @cflav and colleagues.

I’m torn whether to file this under #adaptation or dystopia. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
There is an old quip that industrial agriculture took a solution and divided into two problems: how to dispose of the manure from concentrated animal feedlots; and how to fertilize monoculture fields, which often grew feed for those same animals.
This study reminds us that degrading or breaking functioning ecosystems in order to optimize for one metric that we care about creates multiple problems that we rarely anticipate; and that restoring those ecosystems is often the best solution.

Great news– the range of lawsuits against major oil companies can proceed in State courts.
But as these cases proceed (and likely proliferate), the question becomes – what is the purpose of these cases? What are they trying to achieve?

The mere payment of damages is not enough, and settlement negotiations open up a much wider range of creative options than one might convince a judge to order at trial.
So what is the climate advocacy movement doing to think about this now, what are we doing to prepare?
