Toni Kroos on Harry Kane winning the Ballon d'Or: "[Kane] not only enjoys it quietly, he's perhaps also the only one who didn't start a campaign beforehand. Of course, you can't call it undeserved. You can always talk about which type of player you prefer to win it, and opinions differ there. But I think this time it was more open than ever, at least in terms of performances, because nobody won everything. In a World Cup year the World Cup always carries a big weight. If you only looked at the season, I'd have found someone like Kvaratskhelia super interesting. That would have been my call, because in my eyes he was the best player of the best team in Europe, especially in the Champions League season. But then you have Kvaratskhelia, who doesn't play at the World Cup because his country didn't qualify, and you're almost without a chance again. And still he ended up 6th, which for me is a sign that without the World Cup he would have had very good chances of finishing near the top, because everyone ahead of him had a big impact at the World Cup. Mbapp茅, for example - without a World Cup, I don't think he'd have been in the top 5, because his season at Real was maybe not bad personally, but overall just totally disappointing. And Lamine [Yamal], without the World Cup title, would have had a hard time being in the top 5. The ones who had a top World Cup didn't really have a good season at their clubs, like Bellingham or Mbapp茅. And the ones who had a very good season didn't have the best World Cup, so it was extremely open. I think it has to be that open for Kane to win it, but he deserved it in the end. If it were up to me, it would be Olise 3rd, Kane 2nd, Kvaratskhelia 1st. But it's not up to me, and so it's fine like that" [Podcast "Einfach mal Luppen"]
Harry Kane was welcomed in Munich by teammates, club employees and fans after winning the Ballon d'Or. The other Bayern players nominated for the award were also present 馃弳
Hasan Salihamid啪i膰, who prepared Harry Kane's move to FC Bayern in 2023, on winning Kane in the Ballon d'Or: "I'm very happy for Harry and FC Bayern. His season was world class. Harry is a role model on and off the pitch. Every young player can look up to him. Because he's not just an ice-cold goalscorer. He puts himself at the service of the team, he can play the killer pass, he works back. All of us who love FC Bayern are happy that such a player plays for FC Bayern. It's a privilege to watch him. Hopefully he stays at FC Bayern for a very long time and brings the Champions League back to Munich again. I wish that for him and the whole club" [@kerry_hau, @SkySportDE]
馃帴 Harry Kane speaks to @SkySportsNews after his Ballon d'Or win!
Aaron Danks on whether Harry Kane could already be the greatest English player of all time and where he ranks among Bayern's great strikers: "It's such a difficult question. I think the fact that he's in those conversations is fantastic for him and recognition of his career alone. I wouldn't want to rank him in either place. There have been some great English football players down the years. I think Kevin Keegan got great recognition last night at the ceremony also. There have been some great English players down the years and there are more good young English players coming through. And at Bayern, he's part of a huge establishment and a huge long line of great players that have come through this football club. At the moment the light shines on him, but even within the squad now there are many players performing at such a high level. It's really difficult to rank, which goes back to the first question really. It was hard to see which way the Ballon d'Or went last night. There are so many good players in world football at the moment. I think we're privileged to sit back, enjoy it and watch them perform"
Danks on what has changed for him personally in his first days as interim head coach: "I've had to speak a lot more. The press conferences come around quite often, standing in front of the players and speaking to them in Vince's [Kompany] absence. But not really much has changed. We've tried to keep doing what we do, and Ren茅 takes a big lead on the opposition analysis and on building the game plan for us. I take a big lead on planning the training sessions. We're all pulling together as a group and as a team to fill the gaps that we're missing from Vince at the moment and get him through it that way"
Aaron Danks on whether Harry Kane post 'Work hard in silence, let success be your noise' was a message to Lamine Yamal and what it says about Kane: "I think that statement from Harry is a fantastic statement for any young people, in any walk of life, but also for any young football players. I don't think it was directed at anybody. That's exactly him. He works a lot in the silence. He does a lot of work that nobody will know about, to get his body in the condition that he needs to be in, to get his mindset where it needs to be, and to get his preparation right. And then his success will speak for himself. I remember years ago when he was back home in England and everybody spoke about him not winning trophies, but if you looked at his career and what he was achieving, he was taking the England team to European finals, he was taking Tottenham to Champions League finals, he was having a fantastic career, maybe wasn't getting the recognition in terms of trophies that he deserved. And those things are coming now for him. So I think the success will speak for him"
Aaron Danks on whether the team was confident Harry Kane would win the Ballon d'Or: "I can't say I was overly confident because he's up against some top, top players, and the margin of winning was really close in the results between him and Mbapp茅, and then obviously Lamine's [Yamal] performances this year. So it was less about confidence and more about working closely with him and seeing the effort he puts in, knowing the journey he's been on to get to this moment. I'm really happy for him. As an Englishman I'm really biased as well, because for me it comes from all different aspects. I know the person, so I'm really pleased for him. He gets that recognition for all his hard work, his journey, everything he puts into it. I see how hard he works every day on his body, on his football, on everything. So I'm really happy for him, really happy for the football club, really happy for Bayern, because I think it's good recognition of this club and what this club stands for, and the previous winners that have come through here. And thirdly, as an Englishman, I'm really proud of him. I'm a big advocate of English players and English coaches, and I want them to showcase what they're capable of. So for Harry to bring this back for England as well is also the first one since Michael Owen, and I think it's great recognition for him. I'm really proud of what he's achieved. And I know Harry as well, his full focus will now be on his next goal, his next performances, his next games. He'll be straight back into that professional, humble mindset that's got him to this level"
Aaron Danks on the plan with Joshua Kimmich and whether he could return on Saturday: "Obviously the line stays the same. We're giving him time to be with his family and we expect him to return to us at some point this week. He'll be back here at S盲bener Stra脽e at some point"
Aaron Danks on whether there is a specific Magdeburg strength he's scared of or wants to focus on: "We know that they're a good team, they're well coached, they have some really good ideas and some good principles. We'll finish our analysis this morning with the players and share our findings with them. We know that they're in decent form. They've had a good start to the season. If I try and position myself inside their club, this will be a huge moment for them, a chance to come to the Allianz Arena and play a big game. We know they'll be highly motivated, so we have to match that and we have to be ready for it, for a difficult game and a difficult challenge. And hopefully we can showcase what we're about"
Aaron Danks on whether Kimmich, Kompany and Kane's Ballon d'Or win have strengthened the squad and created a special spirit: "You see full extremes of life in the last week. You see the joys and the highs for Harry [Kane] last night and you see the lows of some of the things we've had to go through in the last 7 days. I think for us internally and professionally, we have to find a balance. We have to find our processes and our professionalism to get through it all. But it's really important in these moments that you understand the human being is the most important thing. That for me has always been important as a coach. This is about connection before coaching people. It's about understanding what gets the best out of people. So I think these moments do bring you closer because they're challenging moments. But to get through these moments, we've had to rely on our chemistry and our team spirit and our togetherness. So that's definitely helped us and hopefully it strengthens us also"
Aaron Danks on which players are available for Magdeburg and the injuries to Manuel Neuer and Jamal Musiala: "I think it may be a little bit too early for Manu [Neuer] and for Jamal [Musiala], who's yet to return to team training. All of the players came in and had treatment yesterday, and we will see how they responded to that and how they report this morning. I'm still yet to speak to the doctors and the medical staff this morning to see who can train this afternoon, but we know that Min-jae Kim is a step closer, we know that Aleks [Pavlovi膰] is a step closer, so we'll see"
