In 2019 we set out to reform our storied union. We organized like hell to win 1M1V. We ran a slate of reformers & swept the election. Members stood up & won transformational contracts winning back COLA, a just transition and more. We are celebrating these historic agreements.

The last NLC got DSA in the position to directly support the Teamster and UAW contract campaigns that won big. I’m excited to see how Strike Wave 2.0 (including @BeccaRoskill and uaw members) take on the next step in building the bridge to the labor movement. Rank them high!

"The Democratic Party is a transactional partner to labor. It will only help us to the extent that we are strong enough to push it to do so. Joe Biden does not pass out union cards. The NLRB does not organize workers. Only the labor movement can do that."

as climate chaos gets more lethal, my all-time favorite official @NLRB labor law tip:
"A walkout because of conditions abnormally dangerous to health, such as a defective ventilation system in a spray-painting shop, has been held not to violate a no-strike provision."

This is an absolutely fantastic conversation between @NelsonLichtens1 and @micahuetricht. Very thoughtful, reflective, engaging. Take the time to read it, it's worth it.

The UAW congratulates SINTTIA on their recent union election win, as workers at the Fränkische Industrial Pipes in Silao, Guanajuato, voted to join the independent Mexican union.
SINTTIA garnered world recognition by organizing the first independent union at the massive General Motors facility in Silao in February 2022. aflcio.org/2022/2/4/gm-silao…
Workers at Fränkische Industrial Pipes overcame intense harassment, intimidation, and illegal firings for organizing to establish an independent union.
The UAW understands that when Mexican workers have independent unions that bargain strong contracts, workers on both sides of the border win.

With Glacier, the Supreme Court showed that we cannot wait on the law to strengthen the labor movement for us. They will defend companies and property rights. Our job as unions is to call this entire exploitative system into question with our most powerful weapon: the strike

Today's decision is outrageous, but could've been much worse. Unions still have the right to strike; employers still can’t generally sue in state court for losses caused by strikes. But the decision opens the door to whittling away those rights further. labornotes.org/2023/06/supre…
