We share this probably unrealistic hope

My (perhaps unrealistic) hope is that this awful incident prompts a bigger discussion about:
• Severe mental illness and stigma
• Proper healthcare - assertive outreach
• Sensible legislative safeguards
• Sensible joint working with police

This goes entirely against the ethos of my field Assertive Outreach
Even a rudimentary understanding of severe mental illness is enough to know that some people who are very ill either can’t/won’t engage
Engagement is a two way street and removing support is simply unethical

What the murderer did was horrific. But he was seriously mentally ill. Why wasn’t he being cared for? Hundreds (thousands?) of seriously mentally ill people are not being properly cared for / are abandoned in this country. Sometimes, dreadful events will result

Last year, MPs voted to repeal the Vagrancy Act.
Now the Government want to bring in new laws to criminalise rough sleeping – much like the Vagrancy Act.
Sign and share our petition to tell the government to drop these plans. Help us reach 10k signatures! campaigns.crisis.org.uk/page…

🤯 Our unelected prime minister has just installed an unelected former prime minister, David Cameron, as Foreign Secretary.
💚 It's time for a #GeneralElectionNow
