I get people are trying to be positive. You’re trying to be kind. And genuinely, it’s appreciated. But I encourage you to be intentional and cautious with your words. Toxic positivity. Unintentional fatphobia. It’s so ingrained that chubby or fat equates “ugly.” That if we are calling ourselves chubby or fat that we’re calling ourselves ugly. Yes, it’s often the case when people make such statements. It often comes from a sense of insecurity or lack of self-worth. I know I’ve made plenty of posts about my own insecurities on my less confident days. But not always. There are so many confident and beautiful fat/chubby women and men. These things aren’t mutually exclusive. So before you comment “you’re not fat, you’re perfect!” or similar on someone’s post, think about your words a bit more. Thank you for coming to my Kim Talk 🙂
