The Whistler exhibit @Tate is insufficientjy lit. Yes, the engravings need low light levels, but no need for near-mesopic levels for oil paintings. The curators should adhere to Whistler’s words “ a beautiful painting should be shown beautifully.”
Fabulous #Escher exhibit @SomersetHouse London. Nothing like a well-curated in-person art experience ! The perceptual and mathematical descriptions were a bit thin, but it was amazing to experience over 100 etchings and woodcuts, including the astounding Metamorphosis II.

Question: this mantis is camouflaged to us because our color filters respond equally to his shields and to the leaf. But other animals with different color filters might see him just fine. Are we the predator he’s hiding from?

Great visualizations - you can almost feel, kinesthetically, the influence of the different gravities. I bet embodying these relationships makes them more memorable.

So satisfying! Other ideas: Repeat in a refrigerator to show the effect of temperature differential. Or, to show that heat simply moves from areas of higher temperature to areas of lower temperature (not just up), elevate the rack and watch a sidewise bag float to the side.
This #ChristianeBaumgartner woodcut (2017) uses crisp, but irregular, black and white lines to create a magnificent, dynamic image, inspired by #Hokusai’s Wave at Kagagawa. @mfaboston. We perceive amazing, grayscale, nuances in the mist and eddies. #Art&Perception.
Clifford Still paintings challenge figure/ground organization and to me, look like angular versions of Rorschach ink blots, evoking the perception of nameable shapes. So many blacks, varying in texture, reflectance and hue! @Still_Museum – at Denver, CO
