IRDIA held a crucial meeting to fix one of the biggest pain points in the industry: slow and frustrating grievance resolution.
Hereβs the breakdown. π§΅π

5. Claim rejection ratio includes both claim rejection and claim repudiation cases.
6. Premiums are indicative for the stated profile and plan configuration and may vary based on underwriting and changes in product pricing.
7. ILM Ratings consider factors beyond this table, while some benefits shown here are not included in the ratings. Visit our website for the full methodology.

Star Health Super Star (Secure) vs Niva Bupa ReAssure 3.0 (Black): Key Differences
When you place two health insurance plans side by side, the real differences often hide beneath the surface.
This comparison looks at key USPs, core product benefits, premiums, overall ILM ratings and insurer-level claims experience, helping you understand what each plan offers and how Star Health Insurance and Niva Bupa Health Insurance have performed in FY 2025-26.
ReAssure 3.0 (Black) offers an unlimited base sum insured option in place of a fixed base sum insured, with no upper limit on the insurerβs maximum liability, subject to terms and conditions. Super Star (Secure) does not offer this.
Both plans let you lock your age. In Super Star (Secure), the lock holds until a claim is paid or you turn 56, whichever is earlier. In ReAssure 3.0 (Black), it holds until a claim is paid. In both, it is your age that gets locked, not your premium, so premiums can still rise if the insurer revises its rates.
Among core product benefits, day care treatments and consumables are other key differences. Super Star (Secure) covers all day care treatments up to the sum insured, while ReAssure 3.0 (Black) covers day care treatments lasting 2 hours or more. On the other hand, ReAssure 3.0 (Black) covers 146 non-medical items, such as gloves, masks and syringes, through an add-on, while Super Star (Secure) covers 68 non-medical items.
There are also other key differences covered in this comparison.
This comparison gives you a starting point, not the full picture. The right plan depends on your individual needs, health profile, and budget.

Claims are stressful enough. A delayed claim settlement adds to the burden when someone is already dealing with hospital bills.
This data shows the % of paid health insurance claims not settled within 30 days by General Insurers and SAHIs in FY 2025-26. It ranges from 0.02% to 42.95%. Calculated as 100% minus the share of paid claims, by number, settled within 30 days, as per insurersβ public disclosures.
This figure does not show how many claims were rejected or are still pending. So an insurer should never be judged on settlement speed alone. Look at it together with claim rejection ratio, claim-related complaints, ombudsman complaints decided in favour of customers, and incurred claim ratio.

For every βΉ100 of premium an insurer earns, how much goes towards claims?
This infographic shows the Incurred Claim Ratio (ICR) of General Insurers and Standalone Health Insurance Companies (SAHIs) for their health insurance business only, in FY 2025-26.
ICR tells you how an insurerβs claims incurred compare with the premium it earned, not how smoothly those claims are handled. To evaluate claims performance of an insurer, check all key metrics together such as the claim rejection ratio, claims ageing, claim-related complaints.

Want to know which term insurance plans currently have a Term Extension Option?
Comment "Extension" and we'll send the list.
Raju planned retirement at 60.
So Raju bought term insurance till 60.
For some reason, Raju cannot retire at 60.
Can Raju extend his term cover?
Not so far, but NOW some plans offer such an option. π€―
Letβs deep dive into how this works. π
Want to know which plans offer this option?
Comment βExtensionβ and weβll DM you the list.
So if your term plan is nearing expiry and you still need life cover, check whether your policy has an extension option.
And if you're buying term insurance today, check whether the plan gives you this choice for the future.
Just remember that this feature isn't guaranteed in every policy.
Our suggestion -
When choosing term insurance, think about the age at which your family will stop depending on your income.
Be realistic about that age.
If the plan also lets you extend the term later, that's useful flexibility.
Just make sure you understand the conditions.
While this option is useful, do not buy a term plan only because it has this option.
Choose the right cover amount and policy term from day one.
See if the plan has all the features, riders you need.
Check the insurer's track record too.
This extension option is useful if your original estimate turns out to be wrong.
It shouldn't become an excuse to choose a shorter policy term today.
But don't assume you can simply extend the policy term whenever you want.
The rules differ across plans.
It may require fresh medical underwriting or the insurer's approval.
You'll also need to check:
π How long can you extend the cover?
π How much additional premium will you pay?
π Is there a maximum age limit?
π When must you request the extension?
Some plans may even let you shorten the policy term.
This is where a feature now available in some term insurance plans may help.
It is the Policy Term Extension Option.
It allows you to extend your life cover beyond the original policy term, subject to certain conditions.
So if your family still needs financial protection, you may have a way to continue the cover.
The obvious option is to buy a fresh term insurance policy.
But buying term cover at 60 is very different from buying it at 30.
Premiums could be much higher.
Your health may have changed.
And the insurer may even decline your application.
Your children may still need financial support.
Your spouse may still depend on your income.
Or you may have a loan that hasn't been repaid.
But your term insurance will end on the date you originally chose.
Even if your responsibilities haven't ended.
When buying term insurance, we estimate how long our family will need financial support.
Maybe till 60. Maybe 65.
We assume that by then, our loans will be repaid and our children will be financially independent.
But we're making these assumptions 20-30 years in advance.
And things don't always go as planned.
