I think it’s a real shame as i rate him but i get it, said he wants to be a midfielder, look whats infront of him here compared to Newcastle, if he breaks in as left back look whats here compared to Newcastle, if him and his family are fans too, i can see his perspective
🚨 Newcastle working on deal to sign Lewis Hall. After multiple bids rebuffed, new offer in. Chelsea preferred #CPFC loan but 18yo favours permanent to play #UCL & under Howe. #CFC have left-back depth + Hall grew up a #NUFC fan. Price ~£35m @TheAthleticFC theathletic.com/live-blogs/t…

I love Lavia btw, wanted him before most of you who are in my replies, so don’t start that one. I was simply saying that spending £60m on top of £115m clearly means that we have to make sales and Hall being one of them is a no-go for me anyway. We needed Caicedo, both is a bonus, but at the cost of Lewis?

Replying to @JoeBambrough
Everything is so black and white and set in stone. Football isn’t like that.

Hall leaving does not warrant Lavia getting unnecessary stick/pressure btw.
Lavia is the most promising DM in the league, signing him is not the problem.

You can praise the board for the window and criticise them at the same time in isolation, both things can co-exist, selling Hall is a mistake, let’s call it out for what it is rather than getting angry at fans.

hall leaving is sad and all but let’s not get onto lavia cos that’s actually one of the very good things we’ve done on the market

The way I see it is this:
We’ve signed excellent players in midfield and have “depth” at LB.
That has made Hall’s path to the team harder and there’s a UCL team after him. Chelsea can also book £35m pure profit on a player that plays positions we have plenty of players in.
It’s far from ideal and selling him is a mistake, It’s frustrating that Chelsea are selling Hall over Trevoh or Gallagher perhaps but we can’t have everything we want at once.
His career comes first for him and him leaving is a mix of opportunity and being nudged out the door.
Not good enough from us but when there’s a side like Newcastle in for him (who he’s a fan of) then he won’t turn it down even though he may not blatantly want to leave.

Chelsea fans don’t know how to temper outrage at all, it’s either ‘get these Americans and SDs out’ or ‘Egbhali and boehly masterclass’. What happened to just disagreeing with a decision without someone needing to lose their job

this is the most heartbreaking sale since hazard left

#Chelsea secured Lewis Hall to a new long-term contract. But Newcastle’s interest has remained and they have since made another offer. Chelsea initially preferred Hall joining Crystal Palace on loan.

Newcastle United are working on a deal to sign Lewis Hall from #Chelsea, who are seeking £35M if he leaves. Hall favours a permanent exit.

I didn’t get how you can sign a new long term deal but then decide you want a permanent move when the loan deal was basically coming with the new contract. Something isn’t right at all.

And yes him signing a new ‘long term deal’ is literally in this report above. Something isn’t right at all.

Clearly, quite annoying personally, because it felt like an attempt to deflect from/bury our reporting, where we acted in entirely good faith with the club. But way more importantly, it was illustrative of United attempting to seize back narrative on increasingly strained process

On this occasion, we were asked to extend our deadline so club could gather its response. Then, simultaneously, around 1545, the club issued a statement on its website, an all-staff email, and a press statement to all journalists who cover the club. And sent to us at same time.

Of course, having abandoned their first proposed date (4th August), nothing has been announced, which gives the club plausible deniability on a “final decision”. After all, human beings can change their minds. (Likely reason for delay: wanting to brief women’s team still at WC)

Personal reading is United are unsettled & panicking that aspects of their choreographed plan made public and they are now witnessing a significant social backlash. I 100% stand by our reporting that Arnold told his exec team in 1st week August of plans to return Greenwood.
