Mozambique's financial intelligence unit GIFiM is strengthening risk-based anti-money-laundering supervision of real estate, casinos, car dealers, lawyers, accountants and precious metals dealers, with FATF, World Bank and ESAAMLG input. Leaving the FATF grey list was step one. Building supervision now, ahead of the next mutual evaluation from 2028, is how Mozambique keeps correspondent banks and investors on side. #Mozambique #fatfries jornaleconomico.sapo.pt/noti…

Kasaï-Oriental's governor Jean-Paul Mbwebwa Kapo plans a copper trading centre at Katende, in Miabi territory, where malachite has been found. A provincial decree will follow to organise artisanal mining and revenue sharing. Copper is no longer only a Katanga story. Setting up a trading centre and rules before the rush, not after, could keep more value and revenue in Kasaï-Oriental. #DRC #Copper actualite.cd/index.php/2026/…

ExxonMobil is raising its stake in Mozambique's Rovuma LNG (Area 4) to 50%. AIM reports the move comes through an asset swap with Eni. The US$30bn, 18.6 Mtpa project is expected to reach a final investment decision by end-2026. When the operator doubles its share before FID, it is putting more of its own capital behind the project. AIM puts the state's expected take at about US$150bn over 30 years. Is Rovuma LNG now the anchor of Mozambique's growth story? #Mozambique #LNGSHOT worldoil.com/news/2026/10/30…

Mozambique's Coral Norte floating LNG unit was 72% built by late October, up from 43% in November 2025. The SAIPEM 12000 drillship is in Cabo Delgado to drill up to six wells over about 270 days. First gas is planned for 2028. Up to 25% of Coral Norte's gas may go to the domestic market. With construction on track for 2028, the question is how fast that gas can feed power and industry at home, not just exports. #Mozambique #LNGSHOT oeconomico.com/coral-norte-a…

Zimbabwe's Constitutional Court has reserved judgment on the direct-access application by Eliphas Kawa and Hazvineyi Machingura against Constitutional Amendment No. 3. No date has been set for the ruling. The CAA3 dispute is now before the Constitutional Court, with judgment reserved and other challenges pending. The court's answer on direct access will decide how far the amendment can be tested on its merits. #Zimbabwe #CAA3 zimeye.net/2026/11/02/con-co…

IEC CEO Sy Mamabolo says more than 780,000 South Africans cast special votes on the first day, out of about 2.65 million approved. Special voting continues on 3 November ahead of the 4 November municipal election. More than 780,000 ballots on day one of special voting, with day two still to come. If turnout builds on 3 November, will the 4 November vote show a stronger mandate for local government than the polls expect? #SouthAfrica #LGE2026 sabcnews.com/sabcnews/more-7…

The Pretoria High Court has ordered former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi to pay the state R1,666,582,825.73 plus interest. The NDPP welcomed the ruling. Agrizzi says he does not have the money and will seek leave to appeal. The court found a network that won about R2.37bn in contracts and paid R75.7m in bribes over 16 years. A R1.66bn order turns state-capture findings into a claim on assets. The real test now is collection. #SouthAfrica #StateCapture dailymaverick.co.za/article/…

The Modimolle court has convicted two accused over the February 2020 theft of US$580,000 from a couch at President Ramaphosa's Phala Phala farm. A third accused was acquitted on all charges. Sentencing is set for 13 November. Six years after the burglary that became a national political storm, a court has ruled on the evidence: two convicted, one acquitted. Does a verdict two days before the municipal vote finally move Phala Phala from politics to the courtroom? #SouthAfrica #phalaphala mg.co.za/news/south-africa/2…

Botswana's Home Affairs Minister Pius Mokgware told Parliament 5,957 foreigners have been granted citizenship since 2018. Zimbabweans lead with 2,947, ahead of South Africans at 1,327, Indians at 320 and Zambians at 209. Most grants came through marriage. Nearly half of Botswana's new citizens since 2018 are Zimbabwean, mostly through marriage. Figures like these show how integrated SADC families already are. The Western Cape High Court has convicted former SAPS constable Alfonso Cloete of the 2018 murder of Chevonne de Wet, finding he used his police position to gather information for the 28s Mobsters gang. Sentencing proceedings are under way. Judge Kusevitsky: "Cloete was a police officer who associated himself with this criminal organisation." A Poca conviction reaching inside the police, in election week, shows the courts can hold gang networks to account. #SouthAfrica #poca dailymaverick.co.za/article/…

ZimTrade is taking 17 Zimbabwean firms to the 9th China International Import Expo in Shanghai, 5 to 10 November. China's embassy puts Zimbabwe-China trade at US$5.01bn for January to September 2026, up 51.6% year on year. Horticulture, leather, handicrafts, construction and e-commerce firms are heading to Shanghai under China's zero-tariff window. With bilateral trade up 51.6% in nine months, the next test is turning volume into value-added exports. #Zimbabwe #CIIE newzimbabwe.com/17-zimbabwea…

SAHRC: municipalities must stop spending money on water tankering. Tshwane paid R777m for tankering in 2024/25 and R326m in 2025/26. Tshwane cut its tankering bill from R777m to R326m in a year. With new councils elected on 4 November, will the next step be pipes and reservoirs instead of trucks? #SouthAfrica #Water timeslive.co.za/news/south-a…

ANC NEC member Parks Tau: coalition talks after 4 November will be run from the ANC secretary-general's office, with the stated aim to 'limit instability'. TimesLIVE reports the DA is centralising its negotiations too. If both GNU partners negotiate from the centre rather than council by council, could hung metros finally get coalitions that last a full term? #SouthAfrica #LGE2026 timeslive.co.za/politics/202…

IEC on day one of special voting: close to 99% of stations opened on time, 94% with full staff and materials. A presiding officer in Mahikeng collapsed and died at her post. Empty ballot boxes stolen in KZN were replaced and voting resumed. Near-99% on-time opening, and a ballot-box theft in KZN contained within the day. Durban influencer Max Makhanya, arrested for allegedly 'insulting' KZN police commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, appeared in the Durban magistrate's court and was granted R7,000 bail. Access Bank says the kwacha depreciated 3.4% in October to close at K20.3724 per US dollar and could weaken to K21 in November, citing lower FX supply and seasonal dollar demand from fuel and input importers. October's slide still leaves the kwacha with about 9% gains this year, and Access Bank points to copper above US$14,000 a tonne, the Moody's upgrade and a pending IMF programme as cushions. In Lusaka, Akashambatwa Mbikusita-Lewanika, who chairs the Council of Elders for Ethical Leadership, Democracy and Development, backed Ian Khama: 'No government should regard criticism as hostility.' Sovereignty versus accountability is now a debate inside Zambia, not only between Lusaka and Khama. A public argument among Zambian elders is the kind of open space SADC norms exist to protect. #Zambia #Botswana zambiamonitor.com/lewanika-b…

More than 700 disinformation complaints, including AI-manipulated content, have been lodged ahead of South Africa's 4 November municipal vote. Chief electoral officer Sy Mamabolo says some involve content circulating on X. 700+ complaints before polling day is a warning, but also evidence that voters are reporting and the system is logging. The real test is how fast platforms act on what is flagged. #SouthAfrica #LGE2026 timeslive.co.za/news/sci-tec…
