Because their initial analysis was inconclusive, they called in the FRC (The Famine Review Committee). Here’s what the report says about that: “The FRC finds the analysis team’s classification plausible.” Not definite. Not verified. Not actual. “Plausible.”
The issue is mortality rate. Phase 5 (aka actual famine) is defined by a specific level of mortality (2/10,000 per day), as the article Aviva posted explains.
In the report, the IPC acknowledges that they “could not conclude on mortality evidence.”
She’s not wrong.
Look at the report yourself. The IPC was only able to confirm a Phase 4 situation, even in the very hardest hit part of Gaza.
Received my copy of Islam, Israel and the West by @DanBurmawy. Just finished the introduction. It’s even better than expected.
Strong recommend.
