Dave has once again conducted an exhaustive investigation, stopping just before the part where he reads the evidence.
Here are three key things he missed.
1. Cancelling East West Link was an election commitment.
Labor told Victorians before the 2014 election that it would scrap the project. Victorians then elected Labor.
Personally, I'd quite like East West Link. It would make my airport trips quicker.
Regrettably, "Aaron gets to Tullamarine faster" has never achieved the prominence I believe it deserves in Victorian infrastructure assessment.
2. The cancellation liability didn’t magically materialise when Labor took office.
Weeks before the election, the Liberal govt signed the contract with the planning approval under legal challenge and Labor publicly committed to cancelling the project.
The Auditor-General called signing in those circumstances "imprudent" and said it exposed Victoria to "significant cost and risk".
'Imprudent' being Auditor-General for 'what the fuck were you thinking?'
3. And this is the part your morality tale really cannot survive: they were told how to mitigate the exposure.
Officials advised the Liberal govt to resolve the court challenge before signing. An expedited hearing was achievable. Waiting was identified as the best mitigation against the substantial financial risk.
The Liberal govt declined and instead for purely political reasons, signed the contract BEFORE the election.
The Auditor-General found that had they waited for the judicial review, the state's exposure under those non-standard contractual provisions could have been avoided.
That isn’t some obscure footnote, Dave. It is central to understanding how taxpayers became exposed to the very costs you're now blaming entirely on the govt that inherited the dodgy contract.
And this is why your increasingly enthusiastic role as Liberal Party cheerleader is becoming difficult to take seriously.
You’re not a truth-teller, Dave. You're a charlatan, and your schtick relies on your audience being as wilfully ignorant of the facts as you.

This is completely false.
The IDF has never planned, approved, or carried out a strike in Gaza in which 500 civilians or anything near that number were anticipated to be killed. Nor was any credible claim raised throughout the war suggesting that an IDF strike had caused anything near that number of fatalities.
The filmmakers couldn't possibly verify this claim, there is no real supporting evidence, and yet they published it anyway. Additionally, nothing about the interviewee, not his service nor his role can be independently checked and verified.
No such strike was ever planned, approved, or carried out yet this is the claim the filmmakers chose to promote their movie with. Judge the rest accordingly.
